The good thing was that after being knocked out, Alaynah and her friends were tied onto wooden chairs instead of hanging in the air. This was good for Alaynah. 1 point to her for making Jorge like her.

They were all alone in the room, and they were looking at each other, silence in between them, until Minho spoke up. "So.. Alaynah, what happened to you?"

"Uhmm..." Alaynah still felt really guilty about what happened. She didn't want to tell them. At the same time, she wanted to tell them.

At the same time, she didn't want to tell them. She knew she could trust them, but she would probably break up in front of them, and they might blame her for it. She did blame herself, so it would make sense if they did.

"I got stuck by myself. But I knew where to go, so I went."

"Wait... where do you get food from?" Minho asked.

"I got food from an abandoned place," Alaynah lied.

"Fair enough. Also, you should do something with your hand." Minho gestured to her hands, which were still somehow bleeding out from the glass a little. He looked a bit concerned.

"So, are we going to escape?" Asked Frypan.

"Yeah, you already know the gist," replied Thomas. "Do any of you have anything we can escape with?"

"Actually, yeah," replied Alaynah. She remembered one of her hikes with Amara and Leila, where they both gave her a pen that worked properly, but it was a knife from inside. Alaynah had no idea how they got it since she thought it was only trending on tiktok or something, not during the scorch trials. 'If I'm in The Maze Runner, and The Maze Runner is real, was Tiktok ever real?' Alaynah really needed to shut up with her random thoughts.

Alaynah then started whispering. "There's a knife in my pocket, but I can't reach my toolbelt."

"Then how do we get it out?" Newt asked. Suddenly, Alaynah had an idea.

She slid closer with her chair to the closest person next to her - in this case, Teresa. She slid her chair so that Teresa's hands were facing Alaynah's side. This meant that Teresa's hands were close enough to reach into Alaynah's toolbelt.

"Teresa, reach into my toolbelt pocket -"

"This one?" Teresa asked, touching a pocket without being able to look at it.

"No, go two left."

"Here?"

"No, I meant two to the right."

"Here?"

"No, two more to the right."

"Here?"

"Yes, Teresa." Teresa opened the toolbelt pocket, and since there was only one thing there, she pulled it out. It was the pen sword. Alaynah really liked calling it the pen sword because it gave perxy jackson vibes. "Also," Alaynah added, "Don't break it, and when you're done, put the pen back together." Alaynah wanted to keep the pen for Amara and Leila.

Teresa nodded, then gently unscrewed the pen, as if she didn't want to cause any damage to it, then slid out the knife part of it. She started cutting on the rope slowly, trying not to make a noise.

20 seconds later, Teresa had the rope cut loose, and she was free. Alaynah could see that Teresa's hands had red marks on them from the rope. Alaynah could only imagine how hard they tied the rope and what it would feel like when she got released from the tightness of it.

Teresa cut Alaynah's next since she was the closest to her. Alaynah started untying the other closest person to her. Newt.

"I can't untie it. It's too hard." Her hands were shaking for no reason. Alaynah tried to concentrate, but the rope was tied too tight, so she gave up.
