EDWARD
27 JUNE 1415"May I ask what is in the bag?"
"Something personal."
"Haakon gave it to you?"
"Yes, but he said that Steve sent it for me," she replied.
I paused to look at her. What could he have sent that she did not have here? Did she need something that I could not give her?
"I have told you many times that if you need anything, you must let me know," I said.
"It's not something you could give, Edward." She took out a small box from the bag. "This is medicine, in case I ever catch a cold or a fever." I was baffled to hear this.
"You mean...the fever can go away with this?"
"Yes, one tablet every four hours until you are good to go," she said.
We started walking again.
"If you had this when Emma was..." I trailed off, not sure how to ask this.
"Yes, I could have given this to her, and her condition would have been cured in an hour."
"Is there a way to get medicine for her from your time?"
She sighed at my words. "I don't know about her condition, Edward," she said, shoving the medicine back in the bag. "Sometimes, it sounds like asthma, but sometimes, I feel like there is something else."
"Like what?"
"I don't know." She shrugged her shoulders. "I am not a doctor, so I can't say what's wrong. And say we know what her problem is, we still can't get her special medicine, even if we ask Haakon."
"Why?"
"Because her medicine would be prescription-based," she answered, and I returned her a confused look. "Unless a doctor examines her, no one knows which medicine she needs, and those medicines can only be purchased when a doctor writes a prescription for it. And even if we do get the medicine, I can't risk her health by giving her anything."
I blew a breath out on her words. That was too much information.
"And not just medicines, Edward, she must go through X-rays and scans, which is only possible in the hospital."
How bizarre was it that her cure was right outside the castle, but time had made it impossible.
"I'm hoping she recovers on natural remedies," she added. "I'm trying my best."
We reached the chamber's door. I held her by the arm and pushed her to the wall. "What you did today, how you changed her mind, how she approached me..." I kissed her before continuing. "I am indebted to you forever," I repeated, in case she did not hear me during our bath.
"You don't have to," she objected. "You two were meant to reconcile one day or another. It's not my doing."
I kissed her again, still showing my gratitude.
In the silence of the night, we heard Emma coughing from the bedchamber. Like an instinct of a mother, Myra opened the door and rushed to the bed.
"Are you all right, dear?"
Emma nodded, drinking some water. Numerous sheets of her writing and sketches were strewn on the bed.
"I was bored, so I decided to draw your stories." She yawned.
"Do you know you are such a talented girl," said Myra, snuggling Emma close to her. I picked up the parchments, gathering them to clear the bed. "It's a rare talent. I haven't seen anything like it."
