You knocked at Ominis and Sebastian's door for the second time. It was almost 3 a.m. and you were late for the special astronomy session.
"Guys, hurry up!" you shouted from the corridor. Finally, Sebastian opened the door, he was wearing his pajamas under his robe and his hair was a mess.
"Fine. Let's go to see the stupid comet." his words came out in a yawn "This better be good, I'm missing my beauty sleep." he yawned again and walked out, followed by Ominis who looked immaculate, his uniform was perfect, not even a single hair out of place, he looked as handsome as ever.
"I'm with Sebastian this time" said Ominis after closing the door, he started walking beside you down to the common room. "Why is this mandatory? I don't understand the fuss about it. I would much rather stay in my bed"
You agreed with Ominis in that last part, you hated leaving your bed, but you felt his apathy was related to being unable to see the comet. You knew Ominis didn't like Astronomy, he had told you so, and you imagined you wouldn't like it either if you couldn't see the stars you had to map.
"Don't worry, Amit has enough enthusiasm for the three of us... for the whole class perhaps." You said to try and lighten the mood, the truth was you were almost as excited as Amit.
You three were the last ones who arrived at the Astronomy Tower, luckily for you Poppy and Amit saved you a good spot.
"Hi guys" you greet your friends "Any sign of the comet yet?"
"Not yet, but it shouldn't be long" Amit was talking fast, he was so excited he couldn't stay still. You believe he had enough energy to run around the Quidditch field and return to the tower before the comet sighting "I came up here after dinner. I was so excited I couldn't wait"
"He had calibrated his telescope five times since I arrived" Poppy whispered to you "And also calibrated mine, twice"
"We can all use your telescope, right Poppy?" asked Sebastian rubbing one eye, barely awake.
"No worries" said Amit before Poppy could answer "I brought an extra telescope just in case. You and Ominis can shar..." he stopped himself a little ashamed.
"Thank you, Amit, for your consideration" said Ominis politely. Amit was still nervous so you changed the topic.
"So, Amit can you tell me again about the comet? I keep forgetting what it's called"
He instantly started blasting facts about the comet, it was interesting listening to him, as if one of your books could speak.
After a while, you heard Professor Shah announce the sighting, followed by Amit's little shouts and giggles.
You and Poppy took turns looking through the telescope and wrote down some notes for the essay you needed to write for the next class. Sebastian was dictating some notes to Ominis, who was listening and writing in silence, frowning from time to time. After a while, he gave Sebastian his quill and paper and walked away.
You wondered what happened, so you told Poppy you'd be back and followed Ominis downstairs.
"Ominis? Is everything alright?" you caught him before he left the classroom.
"Yes. Just a bit tired, that's all" he didn't turn to you, undecided if leave or not.
"Please don't lie to me" You walked next to him and he faced you.
"What do you want me to say?" he snapped "That I'm mad because I can't see the stupid comet or the stupid stars?" You stood in silence, you knew it bothered him, but never thought he'd admit it "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." he started apologizing but you interrupted.
"You are right, they are stupid."
"What?"
"The stars. They are stupid. I mean, they are balls of burning gas that are millions of miles away. And don't make me start on the comet, we should be glad that dirty snowball won't crash on us. I don't get why we study them"
"Don't lie" he got closer to you "You love stargazing" his voice was a whisper that only you could hear, and you felt your cheeks blush "And you were excited for the comet as well"
"Y-yes, but that doesn't make them less stupid" he laughed a little and that beautiful sound made you smile.
"Could... could you describe the comet to me?" he asked shyly "Sebastian was being really vague with his descriptions"
"Sure. Let's get back and I'll try my best"
Ominis took your hand and your heart beat faster. The two of you went back up and you guided Ominis to the less crowded side of the tower.
"Alright... It's a giant shiny rock flying through the sky" you started.
"Sebastian's words exactly" You felt embarrassed but you both laughed.
"Let me try again. For us, it looks like it shines because it reflects the sun's light but you already know that... Its glow is white by the way and the dust tale is bigger, well larger, than the comet itself..." You tried to think of some way he could picture it. "Remember when you throw jelly beans for Sebastian to catch them?"
"Yes" he answered confused.
"Well, the comet's trajectory is like one of those jelly beans. It is slowly coming down through the sky like... Like this." You took Ominis's arm and raised it in the comet direction but left his hand open and his palm turned towards him. You touched a point of his palm with your fingertip "Here is the comet. And it is slowly moving on this direction" Your finger came a little bit down, still on his palm "And it will keep flying down until we can't see it anymore" Your finger went down until you reached Ominis's wrist. You looked at him and noticed a little smile on his face, his gaze went towards your finger. "But right now it is here" and you point back at the top of his palm.
You removed your finger and he lowered his hand, but he was still gazing in the comet's direction as if he could see it.
"Thank you, MC" he whispered. Ominis took your hand and squeezed it a little.
"Any time, love" you answered back, still gazing at his face, he looked happier "We should probably get back to the others. We still have to take notes for the assay."
"I'm sure Amit has taken enough notes for five assays" he caressed the side of your hand with his thumb "Do you want to stay here a little longer?"You glanced in your friend's direction, hoping Sebastian hadn't fallen off the tower for falling asleep, but you found him beside Poppy and Amit gazing at the comet without telescopes, as the rest of the class.
"I would love to" You leaned your head on his shoulder and smiled when Ominis put his arm around you. "Do you want me to describe anything else to you? The stars are beautiful tonight"
"I don't need you to describe them to know they aren't as beautiful as you" Ominis leaned onto you and kissed you. It was a sweet tender kiss that you reciprocated. There and then, at the back of the astronomy tower, with the chilly night wind blowing through your hair, you made a silent wish to all the stars in the sky, for that moment to last forever.
