Hokkaido. Home. More so than back at her house. Maybe because the people here looked a lot more like her mother. Maybe because here, she looked like one of them. Her mother's genes were so strong that both she and her brother were born looking like her exact copies. Kagami, more so since she was born with the woman's, supple, red hair. After her death, she got tired of seeing her each time she looked in the mirror, so she dyed her hair blue to match her father.
"How do you feel?", Taiyō asked softly, not looking away from the road ahead as he drove. Kagami cast him a quick look, he had disturbed her thoughts. For the first time, she was actually glad for that.
"I'm fine. What about you? You look pent up.", she said. Taiyō smiled stiffly and scratched his head.
With a bit of strain in his voice, he said, "Tired, definitely. I could do with a good night's rest."
"Maybe let me drive.", Kagami said teasingly. Taiyō laughed heartily at that, especially because the girl couldn't drive to save her life. If anything, she would crash into something right on the get go.
"Yeah right. I'll teach you someday.", he said. She knew that it wouldn't ever happen. Taiyō was a pro hero, and a fairly new one, at that. He had the work schedule of a medical resident, barely home and with minimal sleep. More so since Endeavor handed Hawks overto him for the next three months. It was the most unfortunate thing.
With a small smile, Kagami looked out the window, taking in the scenery. Softly, she said, "Hey, that giy, Hawks, do you think he's capable of taking good care of a book he borrowed?"
"Your novel is safe, I promise. Damn birdbrain can't put it down.", Taiyō said with a chuckle. Kagami giggled softly.
"That's good to know. It's my most favourite one.", she said. Taiyō cast her a curious glance.
Then, slowly, she drifted off to sleep. Then, she was in a park, one she hadn't been to in years.
"Kacchan? Come here sweetheart."
She looked up from her place on the ground, noting the bit of annoyance she felt. Ayai, her mother, made her to her with a gentle smile. She blinked, huffing.
"Stand up, now. Don't sulk.", she said, reaching out to her. Kagami took her hand and let her lift her off the ground. Nearby, Mitsuki was scolding a little Katsuki for being rough. He had kicked the girl, which put her in her current position. Mitsuki wasn't happy at all.
"Come on, now; apologise!", she said, seething. Katsuki cast Kagami a fleeting glance, and blushed. She frowned, and looked away.
"You're too old for me to be telling you this! You're eleven, for goodness' sake!", Mitsuki said, pulling the boy's ear. He squirmed and tried to get away, but she didn't let him. Ayai looked down at Kagami to find her blushing in spite of herself. She chuckled
"I— I'm sorry, Kagami-chan.", Katsuki bit out. Kagami looked at him, wide-eyed, and gasped. He fell silent when Mitsuki let go of him. Then, all eyes were on her. She blushed, kicking the ground slightly.
"It's okay, it was a mistake.", she said. It really wasn't, she knew that, but she didn't want a fight. She didn't want anyone to be angry with her.
You're still the same, a voice echoed in her mind. Then, it felt like her heart had been plucked out of her chest. How could she change, Katsuki-kun? How could she when being this way kept her safe all this time?
Little Kagami started to whimper, but Ayai quickly came to her side and soothed her.
"Come on. We should get going. Mitsuki oba-san wants to show you something.", she whispered in her ear. Then, she urged the girl forward. Kagami got into the car and looked back to find Ayai stil standing in the middle of the park. Panic set in immediately, and she made to go back, but the door shut in her face.
