"You know..." Mei finally spoke up, a few minutes after Utahime and Satoru left the room.
You groaned. "Don't tell me to be nice to him. You don't know Satoru--"
"I wasn't gonna say that at all," Mei scoffed, before crossing her legs, as she leaned back in her seat. "I was going to ask if you'd ever... well, suspected something."
You turned around, raising a brow at her. "What?"
Mei shrugged. "I mean, I know as little about why you're divorced as Satoru does, but I've always suspected it had a little something to do with whatever..." Mei glanced at the door. "Whatever they have going on."
"Sorry?" You asked, surprised. "They have something going on?"
Mei shook her head, rolling her eyes. "As if. You know Satoru. He's kinda stupidly in love with you." You looked away, staring at the ground again. "It's just a lot of people might assume. Including you?"
You cleared your throat. "No... I mean, I don't know them as well as... um, as well as all of you know them, actually. You've known them way longer than me... should I have suspected anything?"
Mei chuckled. "Never. Utahime's always pissed at him and Satoru's always instigating."
You shrugged. "Maybe that's how they express it."
Mei rolled her eyes yet again. "Don't start that now... I mean, do you really care if they get together now? Satoru would finally leave you alone if he finally had a rebound."
You picked at your nails. "Yeah, I don't... I don't really care."
Mei raised a brow at you, as you hunched over, your voice going quieter.
"Very believable," she huffed, shaking her head.
Satoru and Utahime made it just before the event started, prompting Gakuganji to bitch about how late Satoru always was. Mei sent you a knowing look as they sat down. You looked down, picking at your nails again.
You were thankful that the event started soon. Watching the interesting battles between the students were easy distractions, for both you and Satoru.
Everyone was know focused on the fight that had just occured between Maki and Miwa - was it fair to call it much of a fight though? Maki obliterated most kids her age.
Mei chuckled to herself. "What an interesting girl. You should just go ahead and promote her to second grade already."
"Believe me, I feel the same way," Satoru agreed. "But the Zenin clan keeps on interfering. I wish they would just change their position and accept her."
Mei hummed. "I can't understand such restraint, unless it's about money."
Satoru waved his hand. "You're such a material girl." He continued. "I'm more concerned about the way the coverage around Yuji keeps cutting out."
"Animals can be fickle creatures," Mei explained. "And sharing senses with them is tiring."
"Yeah? Is that so?" Satoru leaned back in his chair, looking back at Mei. "Which side are you on anyway, Mei?"
"Which side?" Mei repeated. "I'm on the side of money of course. There's no value to anything that can't be traded for money. If you can't make money with it, what good is it?"
Satoru crossed his arms, his line of sight moving as he shifted. He continued with his playful tone, however. "Just how much money have you saved?"
You looked over at Gakuganji. He was stoic, and seemingly angry, as he always seemed. It was as hard to read him as it was to read Satoru sometimes.
