"Why?"

You wanted to shake your head and shove the box in his hands before slamming the door in his face.

"Satoru," you frowned, looking down at his feet. "No. Please, don't make this hard for us."

"This is going to be hard either way," Satoru huffed, as he scratched the back of his head. He wanted to grip onto his hair and pull it out. He didn't understand. He didn't get it. It was sudden, it was completely out of nowhere, and he wasn't stupid.

Gojo Satoru of all people wasn't stupid. He could see through lies and he could see you were struggling to do this as well. He could convince you. He could be loved by you for your entire life, if you just opened up, if you told him the truth about whatever had happened a week and a half ago.

"No, Sato- Gojo." Your gaze felt steely, unbelievably intimidating. Pushing the box forwards, you let out a sigh. "Just take your things and leave. This isn't your home anymore."

Satoru had been through his stage of anger. He knew there were five stages he had to get through. The anger he'd felt, right after you'd broken it off with him, surged through his veins almost immediately. He didn't exactly go through anything in the right order.

He wasn't angry at you, he could never be. He was angry at whoever had made you cry uncontrollably when you'd arrived home a week ago, he was angry at the elders. He always talked big about killing them, but ultimately he knew they would be replaced. He could kill them, but it would just put you and Kiyo in more danger.

Right now, he guessed he was in bargaining, whatever that meant. Or maybe he was denial? Whatever it was, he didn't care unless it got him some answers.

"What did they say to you?"

You shook your head. "Why does someone need to say something to me? I'm a grown woman... I can make my own decisions."

"It wasn't your decision to marry me."

You seemed taken aback by that for a moment, but quickly recovered, chuckling hollowly. "Yeah, well, good thing I did, right? It's made me a much braver woman."

"You don't have to be brave," Satoru whispered. "Whatever - whoever is scaring you, there's a reason you have me. I'm the strongest person you could've married, I can protect you and Kiyo!"

"You don't have to protect me," you said, shaking your head, and placing the box he still hadn't taken from you, on the ground. "You need to take your things and leave."

"Y/N -"

"Goodbye."

You slammed the door in his face.

Satoru was a much better person than you were, because you would've smashed through the door and murdered him if he'd ever done that to you. Everyday, you were in awe of his ability to stay in your life and continue to make you feel protected, despite breaking his heart.

You frowned as Satoru seemed unwavering in his decision to not let you go. It seemed like he'd physically hold you down if you even took a step outside.

"Okay..." you suggested. "How about a compromise?"

And that's how you ended up going with him.

You looked up at him once you'd reached the front of the building. "You can just -"

"Wait out here?" Satoru finished for you, letting out a sarcastic chuckle. "No way. Let's go!"

Never had you seen him so chipper about seeing the elders. Maybe he was just excited to shit on them the second they opened their mouths to say anything negative about you. "Satoru," you sighed, following him, practically scurrying behind him as he took long strides down the hall. "You know they'll just get angrier if you're there, right? It's probably better if I go alone."

Satoru scoffed, taking off his blindfold and stuffing it into his pockets. You saw his bright blue eyes glare ahead at the room where the elders were waiting behind. "Like hell I'm giving them another chance to hurt you."

He pushed his hair back and took out his sunglasses, putting them on and covering his eyes again. He got to the door before you. Before he opened it, he wanted to double check on you, and it was only then that he had realized you had stopped walking forward.

You had stopped when he'd made his declaration.

You were struggling to find the words.

He pushed his glasses up on his face, letting his hair stick up and rushing over to you. Those intimidating and steely blue eyes now held all the care and worry that the world could offer you. All the care and worry that you didn't deserve from Satoru of all people.

You bit your lip, feeling your eyes gloss over.

Satoru immediately tensed. "Y/N? Are you scared? You don't have to go, I'll tell them-"

"Satoru," you whispered, shaking your head, and pressing your hand against your eyes. You didn't deserve to be crying in front of him like this. Not the man who had made you comfortable after being terrified to be arranged. Not the man you had been lucky enough to fall in love with. Not the man who, by some miracle, fell in love with you.

"Satoru, you know... you know you should be mad at me, right?"

"What?" Satoru gently placed his hands over your wrists, pulling your own hands away from your eyes. "Why would I be mad at you?"

His voice was so gentle. Why'd he always have to make things so hard?

"It wasn't them," you said, the words barely leaving your mouth. "It was me. I broke your heart."

Satoru's grip on your wrists loosened. "Don't say that..."

You shook your head. "I'm the one who kicked you out. I'm the one who said we should get divorced. I'm the reason we're separated. I'm the reason Kiyo doesn't get to live with you, I'm the reason you don't get to see her everyday. Me. I'm the reason for your suffering, not the elders, not a curse, not your family... not any outside source, me."

You looked up at him, tears falling down your eyes. "Why don't you hate me, Satoru?"

the elders are probably listening in to your drama like theyre not the cause of it lol
