Satoru let out a chuckle. He didn't put much effort into not making it come out so hollow, since he knew Suguru would be able to read through him anyways.
"Don't worry. It has nothing to do with you."
"Then..." Suguru started cautiously, leaning forward. "Do you have any idea why?"
"I..." Satoru chewed on his lips. He didn't have much time to form any comprehensive thoughts, since the back door slid open, and Suguru's daughters came running through.
Suguru watched his best friend morph into the character he always presented himself in. Satoru put on a bright smile, and greeted them with a big wave. The girls had grown attached to Satoru, even though they didn't start off on the best foot. They came running to him, and Satoru opened his arms wide to bring them into a hug.
Nanako giggled loudly. "You owe me a chanel bag, Gojo Satoru!"
Satoru let out a dramatic gasp. "Now what do you need that for, missy?"
"Being the best niece ever?"
Satoru scoffed. "You know Mimiko is my favourite, doncha?"
Nanako rolled her eyes and Mimiko laughed to herself. The girls moved to hug Suguru, who teased them for hugging Satoru first. As you walked back inside with Kiyo, Satoru quickly stood up, dusting off his pants, and fidgeting around with his hands.
He eventually decided to go with a wave, stuffing one hand into his pocket. "Um, hey!"
Suguru, who wasn't facing you, raised a brow at Satoru and repeated his words by mouthing it. Satoru scowled down at him, but quickly smiled back at you when you picked Kiyo up and walked over. "Thank you for coming over, I wasn't sure if Suguru would be able to make it today."
Satoru raised his eyebrows quickly. "Huh? Sorry?" His eyes flickered over to Suguru and the girls, who looked away from him.
You let out an awkward chuckle. "Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you. Um, well, I wasn't sure if you'd be free the whole time, ya know? And Suguru's never got anything to do."
Suguru grinned back at you. "The benefits of mass murder."
Satoru pouted, crossing his arms. "What a great babysitter you are."
You picked up Kiyo from the ground before heading over to Satoru. She reached out with grabby hands for Satoru, who quickly had a smile on his face (a very natural one, since you know, the light of his life was reaching out for him).
Nanako quickly showed off something on her phone. "Oh, can we take Kiyo to this cat cafe, I think she'd really like it!"
Satoru looked over at Suguru to share a wary look, but he found that Suguru was already raising a brow at you.
You shook your head. "It's dangerous for Suguru and you two to be seen outside with Satoru and Kiyo, girls. I really wish you could go together, but it just can't, okay?"
Mimiko sighed but nodded. Nanako got a bit angrier and grit her teeth, but neither of the girls were the type to speak back to you. If Satoru had said that, Nanako would've had an entire tantrum about it.
(He really hoped Kiyo didn't end up like Nanako).
Your trip to Jujutsu High ended up being futile. No one would tell you anything about the entire situation, not even Mei. When you had tried prying Shoko about it, she let you know that even she didn't really know the extent of what was going on. All she knew was that it was serious and they were being wary of everyone.
