You were pretty terrified.
Gojo's mother had inspected you thoroughly. She checked your skin, pulled at your nose, pinched at your cheeks, ran a finger over your lips, checked on your teeth, even checked the inside of your ears!
You bit the inside of your cheek as she checked the rest of your body, feeling naked despite all of the traditional clothes you were wearing.
It had taken hours to get ready for such a simple inspection - were you expected to pretend to be absolutely perfect, every day until Gojo Satoru died? You were only told last night that the mystery man that your parents desperately wanted to arrange you to was the strongest sorcerer alive today.
Your family was from a village up north. The clan was very prosperous in the Heian era, known for their beautiful daughters but being even better known for one of your female ancestors - she birthed the first holder of limitless and protected him until he was of marriage age.
The Gojo clan had a daughter, with beautiful white hair and bright blue eyes, who entranced him. He joined their family once they were married, but he was soon killed, only a week after the arrangement. Luckily, the Gojo daughter had gotten pregnant, continuing on the passing of Limitless.
Considering your very distant relation to their origins, you were a top candidate, even if you had a pimple on your chin.
"And you were taught?"
"Very well," you nodded. "I believe my father showed off my poetry already."
She hummed, before stepping back. "My son is on an assignment at the moment. He may take some time."
"I don't mind waiting." (You absolutely did).
Good thing you didn't wait for too long.
He showed up, only five minutes after his mother had said he'd take a while. You were surprised, but his mother seemed even more taken aback. She hurried over to him, whispering, but you could still hear quite well. "You've been late to every other proposal," she huffed. "And you show up the one time I am prepared for your tardiness."
Satoru shrugged, sending his mother a small smile. You didn't know where to look but you probably shouldn't have been practically staring at him. He looked beautiful. You almost felt embarrassed. How were you supposed to get married to him?
While he was having a hushed conversation with his mother, his eyes flickered up to look over at you. Due to your staring, you quickly made eye contact with him. Your eyes shot down immediately and you bowed your head.
Satoru waved his mother off, curious about you, and stalked over. "You can't touch her!" She reminded him. Satoru rolled his eyes, exaggerating for dramatic affect. He sent you a sly grin, as if sharing a laugh about his mothers' behaviour, but you just seemed to stare up with the blankest look you could muster.
You didn't say anything. Neither did he. He bent down - geez, was he tall - and tilted his head as he looked at your face. "You can talk, right?"
You nodded. He looked at you expectantly. "Ye-" Your voice came out hoarse, so you quickly cleared your throat. "Yes."
Satoru gave out his hand. "I'm Satoru."
You glanced down at his hand and then back up at his face. He had sunglasses on, covering his eyes, but his expression was still pretty telling. You brought your hand up slowly. He ended up being the one to clasp onto your hand and shake it.
