Chapter 5

Hot shot was soon going to start radiation therapy. It was going to be his first day of cancer treatment. Hot shot was going to have seven weeks of radiation and then at the start of November he was going to start chemotherapy. Hot shot was nervous about it but he was ready to be brave. Hot shot was in bed the night before his radiation therapy. Hot shot was really nervous about starting treatment tomorrow. He knew about how radiation therapy works but he was still kind of worried about it.

Quickshadow and Heatwave knew Hot shot was nervous about it. They knew he was very nervous and were nervous for him. Quickshadow was understanding as a pediatric oncologist that many patients that are children are nervous before starting cancer treatment. She had to remind Hot shot it is okay to be nervous and that the treatment would help him in the long run.

Hot shot was trying his best to sleep. But he was very scared and worried about tomorrow. Hot shot decided to get up and get a drink of water. Quickshadow was in the living room watching TV and saw Hot shot. "Hot shot what are you doing up?" Quickshadow asked.

"I was just getting a drink of water," Hot shot said.

"Oh," Quickshadow said. "Let me help with that," she said. She got him a cup of water and Hot shot drank it.

"Mummy I am worried about tomorrow," Hot shot said.

"That is okay," Quickshadow said. "It is okay to be worried," she said. "But everything will be alright," she said. "Now go back to bed," she said.

Hot shot then went back to bed and slept in his bed.

Hot shot woke up the next morning. Hot shot had to get dressed and got on his shoes. He grabbed Roxy the rhino. Then headed into the kitchen to get his breakfast. "Good morning Hot shot," Heatwave said.

"Good morning poppet," Quickshadow said.

"Morning mummy and daddy," Hot shot said.

"Today is the first day of treatment," Heatwave said. "You are a very brave boy son," he said.

"I don't feel very brave," Hot shot answered.

"I know you don't," Quickshadow said. "But being brave is doing what you need to do even though you are scared," she told him.

"I want to get better and I know I have to do this so I can get better." Hot shot said.

"It is okay to be scared or even nervous about starting treatment," Quickshadow said. "It is normal, just remember that even though the treatment is tough it will be helpful too you in the long run," she told him.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot soon finished his breakfast and grabbed Roxy the rhino. Then Hot shot got into his car seat. Hot shot was ready to be brave. Hot shot watched as things were passing by. Hot shot soon saw Peaks the dragon. Hot shot waved at Peaks and the car was soon parked. Then Hot shot got out of the car. Hot shot was ready for his radiation treatment to start. He was looking forward to seeing his doctors and friends at the hospital too.

Hot shot and his parents made it to the infusion center area. There was where they had to wait for radiation treatment. Hot shot saw his friends Hoist, Medix, Whirl, Wedge, Scorch, Brushfire and Override were there. Hot shot was happy to see them. "Hi," Hot shot said.

"Hi," they said to him.

"It is great to see you guys," Hot shot said.

"It is great to see you too," Whirl said.

"I am a little bit scared about starting treatment," Hoist said.

"I'm scared too," Scorch said.

"I feel kind of scared too," Brushfire said.

"I think all of us are feeling scared," Medix said.

The others had agree with Medix. Hot shot was kind of nervous and held Roxy the rhino close.

A nurse came out. "Hot shot," the nurse said. It was Hot shot's turn now. Hot shot followed the nurse. Hot shot was holding on to Roxy.

"Hello Hot shot, I am Gary I will be your radiographer today," Gary said. "Where are you getting your radiation therapy we will ask every time for safety reasons," he said.

"I am getting to my head," Hot shot said.

"Hot shot would you like to listen to music or books while getting your radiation therapy?" Gary asked.

"Music," Hot shot said.

"We have a wide variety of music to listen too, so you can choose which you can listen too," Gary said.

"Do you have Pokémon music?" Hot shot asked.

"Yes," Gary said.

Soon Hot shot was taken to a special room where the radiation therapy machine was. Hot shot got up on the big table and laid down on it and held Roxy. Then Gary came up. "Are you ready for your mask?" Gary asked.

"Yes," Hot shot said.

Then the mask was put over Hot shot's head and was clipped to the table. The bed was moved in to position. Then Gary left the room. "Okay Hot shot we are ready to start," Gary said.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Then music started and the machine started too. Hot shot stayed very still for the treatment. Hot shot was focusing on the music. Then the after about 20 minutes the machine and music stopped.

"Alright Hot shot you are all done for today," Gary said coming in. Then he took the mask off.

"I didn't feel a thing," Hot shot said.

"That is the good thing about radiation therapy you don't feel a thing," Gary said.

Hot shot soon met up with his parents. Then Hot shot and his parents made sure they had everything. Hot shot got his first radiation therapy bead. Skylar told him it glows in the dark. Hot shot found that to be pretty cool. Then they saw Dr. Lopez and Dr. Zhao to check to see if he was okay after the first treatment and to talk. Once that was done Hot shot was taken home. They went through a drive thru and got hamburgers for lunch.

Once they got home they relaxed and had their lunch. Hot shot thought that maybe radiation treatment wasn't so bad. He was going to go again tomorrow. Hot shot knew it meant he was going to see his friends again. Hot shot had a feeling he was going to get used to it.

"Your doctors are going to be checking on you during your treatment to make sure you're okay and you will have hospital stays," Quickshadow said. "It is all part of the treatment to help you get better," she said.

"Okay mummy," Hot shot said.

Hot shot was ready to keep on with his treatment. He was goin to keep fighting and he was determined to get better too.
