Today Hot shot woke up not feeling well. Dr. Zhao told them to bring Hot shot in to stay at the hospital. It was because he had a slight fever and had been near someone who was sick. Hot shot was going to have to stay in isolation at the hospital. Only his parents, doctors and nurses were allowed to be with him. Hot shot wasn't allowed to leave the room either. Hot shot didn't like that too much at all. Hot shot was sad about this. Hot shot had a lot more medicine to take to help with his fever and help him get better. Hot shot got to play on his tablet and watch movies too. Hot shot was also able to order food to be brought to his room.
Nurse Marcus came into the room. "Good morning Hot shot," Marcus said that morning. "Time to take some medicine," he said.
"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot took his medicine without a fight.
"Good job," Marcus said.
Soon Hot shot's fever was gone. Hot shot was able to leave the hospital soon. Hot shot was happy to be back home.
Hot shot still had to go to the hospital for tests, check ups, scans and treatments. Hot shot saw his friends while he was there too.
Today Quickshadow got a call from Dr. Zhao. "I want Hot shot to stay in the hospital for while so we can give intense chemo treatment to help kill of the cancer cells in his cerebrospinal fluid that remain. Because if we don't do this the tumor could recur and or spread to the spinal cord or other body parts," Dr. Zhao said. "It is going to be for several weeks with a possible stem cell transplant from stem cells we collected from Hot shot at the beginning of his treatment," she said. "So it might be a while before he comes home," she said.
"I understand," Quickshadow said. "When do you want him to come in?" She asked.
"Right after you finish breakfast today I want to get started asap." Dr. Zhao said.
"I understand and I will tell Hot shot, bye," Quickshadow said then hung up. Then both Hot shot and Quickshadow finished their breakfast. Hot shot saw his mother grab the go bag. "You need to stay in the hospital for a while." Quickshadow said.
"Okay," Hot shot said.
Hot shot was getting ready to go to the hospital with his mother. Quickshadow called Heatwave at work to let him know where they were going to be. It was also to let him know that Hot shot needed to stay in the hospital for a while. "Thank you for letting me know," Heatwave said. "I will come as soon as I can," he said.
Hot shot was soon settled into his bed in the hospital. Hot shot was busy for the next several days getting high dose chemotherapy. Hot shot also had an NG tube to help give him nutrients during chemotherapy whenever he felt sick and he needed mod nutrients as well. Hot shot had an NG tube a few times and he was used to it too. So he was okay with it.
Hot shot got hooked up to chemotherapy right now. Hot shot was having a longer session today. Hot shot was having longer sessions due to the more intense sessions. Today's session was going to take over a day as is tomorrow's session. Hot shot was just hooked up to it in fact. "There you go Hot shot you are all hooked up," Skylar said as she started the pump. "Today's session is going to take over a day as you know, and you are hooked up to two different medications both should finish by tomorrow morning and you will have another medication for the same length of time tomorrow," she explained.
"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot knew this was going to be a while until his next break from chemotherapy. It was going to be three more days until his next rest from chemotherapy. Hot shot was wondering how long he was going to be in the hospital this time. He had been in there for three weeks almost. He saw Dr. Zhao checking on him, he decided to ask her about it. "Dr. Zhao how long will I be here this time?" Hot shot asked.
"2 and 1/2 to 3 months." Dr. Zhao said. "you are getting very intense treatment and we want to keep an eye on you," she said. "But if you get a stem cell transplant it will be longer, to add about 2 months to that," she said.
"Oh okay," Hot shot said.
"Well I understand that it is hard to be in the hospital for long time and getting an intense treatment regimen, but soon hopefully your treatment will be all finished," Dr. Zhao said.
Hot shot had a thought. "Dr. Zhao, an older kid told me some kids and people with cancer don't get better, and they die," Hot shot said.
"Yes Hot shot there are some people, kids included who have cancer who die from their cancer," Dr. Zhao said. "In the old days almost everyone with cancer died, but now a whole lot more people with cancer including kids with cancer are getting better, almost over 80%, so if doctors like me a scientists keep working at it soon the survival rate of all cancers will keep going up and hopefully reach 100%, it might take long time but some day we will find a cure including for brain tumors," she said.
"Okay," Hot shot said. "Is there a chance I won't get better?" He asked feeling scared.
"Yes Hot shot like anyone with cancer there is a chance you won't get better," Dr. Zhao said. "But me and the rest of your care team will do what we can to make sure you do get better," she said.
"Okay," Hot shot said. "I am scared that I might die and I am scared what it is like," he said.
"I understand that," Dr. Zhao said. "But there is nothing to fear," she said. "Death is nothing to fear, if it happens you will no longer be sick and no longer in pain or be suffering," she said.
"Okay," Hot shot said. "But I am determined to get better and I will get better too," he said.
"That's the spirit," Dr. Zhao said.
Hot shot felt better after talking to Dr. Zhao. He was going to fight and get better too!
