Knight

Hyacinth's POV

Katatapos ko lang maligo ng ipatawag ako ng Duke sa kanyang opisina. Nakatalikod siya sa akin habang nakaharap siya sa glass window at malayo ang tingin. Tahimik akong nagdadasal at ini-re-ready na rin ang aking tenga sa kanyang sasabihin.

"Nakarating sa akin lahat ng pinaggagagawa mo." Aniya ng hindi pa rin humaharap sa akin.

"A-A-About that..." I can't defend myself.

"Did I raise you like that? Hyacinth." Tinikom ko ang bibig ko dahil sa sinabi niya.

Kase alangan naman sabihin ko na hindi siya nagpalaki sakin, diba.

"To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed." Buntong hininga niya.

'A bit' lang daw, so hindi siya totally na disappointed hehe.

"You are the second lady of the Harthwin family so maintain your dignity." Pagpapatuloy niya. "Ano na lang ang sasabihin ng royal family sa inasta mo?" Napantig ang tenga ko dahil sa sinabi niya.

Hindi na ba nila itutuloy ang engagement? Kating kati na akong tanungin yan.

"I will appoint a personal knight on you." Doon na napaangat ang ulo ko, nakaharap na pala siya sa gawi ko kaya napaiwas agad ako ng tingin.

Maya-maya pa ay may kumatok at pumasok sa loob ng kanyang opisina. Napanganga ako dahil ang pogi mga teh.

"This is Sir Eryx Valerian, he will be your personal knight starting today."Pagkabanggit niya pa lang sa pangalan ay nabilis akong umiling at sinalubong ang tingin ng Duke.

"I don't need a knight." Matigas kong sabi.

"Yes you need it, Hyacinth. Sir Eryx will report everything to me from now on." Hindi siya nagpatinag.

"I appreciate the thoughts. But if you want, you can assign my maids to do that work."

"Stop being stubborn and follow my order. This will be the end of our discussion. You may now go." Ano yan? Teacher lang na nag end ng klase.

Mabilis akong lumabas sa opisina niya at ramdam ko ang pag sunod sakin ng knight na yun.

I glance behind my back where the knight is walking. The knight has ash gray hair, giving him a distinguished look, and vivid green eyes that convey depth and wisdom. His fair complexion and warm expression complement his quiet confidence and approachable demeanor.

He caught me staring at him so I immediately looked away and gave a fake cough.

Nakarating kami sa pinto ng kwarto ko na walang nagsasalita. Pinagbuksan naman niya agad ako kaya hindi ko maiwasan na mailang.

"Sir Eryx do you know who I am?" Hindi ko mapigilan na tanungin sa kanya.

"Of course, you will be the lady that I will serve. Youngest lady of Harthwin, Hyacinth Zenith." Aniya sa magalang na tono.

"Are you aware that the lady you'll serve is an illegitimate daughter?" He looks taken aback because of what I said.

"I am well aware, my lady."

"Are you willing to take an oath as my knight, Sir Eryx?" Mataman kong tanong sa kanya. "Since the knight's duty is to protect their master, I am also expecting your devotion and loyalty to me no matter how bad I'll be in the future. I'll ask again, are you willing to take an oath as my knight?" Mahaba kong litanya.

Binuka niya ang kanyang bibig na parang may gustong sabihin pero agad din yun itinikom at nag iwas ng tingin.

I smiled bitterly because of his action.

Who is even willing to take a risk with me anyway?

"Alright. You don't have to force yourself to be my knight." Bumuntong hininga ako. "I'll talk this out with my father once his head is finally cooled down." I smiled at him and tap his right shoulder. "It would be a waste if a prodigy like you will be a knight of a wasted illegitimate daughter of a grand duke."

Akmang may sasabihin siya pero agad ko yun pinutol at nagpaalam na. Mabilis kong sinara ang pinto ng kwarto at umupo sa gawi ng study table ko.

Iwinaksi ko ang bumabagabag sa isip ko at nag umpisa na lamang basahin ang mga letter na galing sa labas ng duchy. Nangunguna ang letter ni Kesiah kaya iyon ang una kong binasa.

Dearest Lady Hyacinth,

I trust this missive finds you in excellent health and high spirits. This is me, Kesiah of the esteemed Revér family, and it is with great honor that I pen these words to you.

Halos sumakit ulo ko kakaintindi sa sulat na iyon. Hindi naman sa hindi ako marunong mag english, pero ang deep kasi ng mga words at terms.

Pano ko 'to rereplyan? Pwede ba i-heart react ko na lang? Wala ba long press dito?

Kinuha ko ang fountain pen at stationery paper na nakahanda na para sakin at saka ako nagsimulang mag sulat. Nang matapos na ako magsulat ay nakangiti ko iyong binasa.

Hello hehe, slr. Pinagalitan lang ng father q kaya di agad nakareply.

Anyway, sureness. Willing me makipag frens sayo. Gala tayo minsan, 'cuz why not coconut.

Inilagay ko yun sa letter size na envelope at nilagyan ng Harthwin seal. Inumpisahan ko na rin basahin ang ibang letters at nireplyan. Yun ang ginawa ko maghapon hanggang sa matapos ko lahat yun.

Napainat ako saka napagdesisyunan ng lumabas. Pero laking gulat ko nang bumungad sa gilid ng pinto si Eryx. He was leaning on the wall with his cross arms and his eyes are shut closed. Mukha atang napansin na niya ang pagbukas ko ng pinto at bigla rin niya iminulat ang kanyang mata.

"What are you still doing here, Sir Eryx?" Medyo gulantang kong tanong.

"Because I am my lady's knight. It is my duty to be around you all the time." Diretso niyang sagot na nagpataas ng isa kong kilay.

"As I said, you don't have to do this if you-"

"I am willing to take an oath for you my lady. Give me a chance to prove myself." Magalang niyang sabi na nagpatigil sakin.

Binalik ko ang tingin ko sa kanya. His emerald eyes are now looking at me intently with willingness.

"Are you sure?" I am confirming what he said. "Are you really willing to gamble in order to accomplish your duty as my knight?" I was taken aback when he suddenly gave me a smile of assurance.

"Yes my lady. I have already given it some thoughts, and knights don't back off with their words." He sounds determine this time.

"Okay then, let's go and tell my father that you'll take a knight's oath!"

I can't help but show how happy I am with his words. I am smiling from ear to ear as I started to ran through the hallway.

I finally have Eryx Valerian as my knight. Though I can't still consider him as an ally, but he's taking a knight's oath which is usually interpret as him, protecting and being loyal to me until his last breath. This is a huge advantage to avoid my death. At dahil mababantayan niya ako, makikita niya na hindi ako masamang tao na sasaktan ang kapatid niya.
