With a nod of acknowledgement, Marvolo squeezed her hand gently before releasing it. "Now, why don't you take a moment to freshen up? We have a busy day ahead of us. You must explain what you were thinking, going into a pub in Knockturn Alley alone!"As Lily emerged from the washroom, freshened up and composed, she found Marvolo seated on the couch, waiting patiently for her explanation. His stern tone softened slightly as he gestured for her to join him.
Taking a deep breath, Lily approached, her heart heavy with the weight of her recent experiences. She knew she owed Marvolo an explanation, no matter how difficult it might be.
"Marvolo," she began, her voice trembling slightly. "I know how foolish my actions were, going to a pub in Knockturn Alley alone. I... I wasn't thinking clearly."
"May I inquire as to the reason for your lapse in judgment?" Marvolo quipped.
The Dark Lord listened in silence, his expression softening with understanding as Lily continued to speak. She recounted the painful discovery of James's infidelity, her voice faltering as tears welled up in her eyes.
"...And then I saw him," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "With someone else... in our bed. I... I couldn't bear it. I know I don't love him but still, we have been friends for so long and he....he promised me. I knew he was cheating on me but to see him...in our bed like that. It hurt a lot."
Unable to hold back her tears any longer, Lily buried her face in her hands, her body shaking with sobs. Marvolo's heart went out to her, his own emotions stirred by her pain. Without hesitation, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close in a comforting embrace. Lily leaned into him, seeking solace in his presence as she let out her grief.
"It's okay, Lily," Marvolo murmured softly, his voice a soothing balm against her anguish.
In that moment, Lily felt a rush of gratitude towards Marvolo, grateful for his unwavering support and understanding. Despite the darkness that surrounded them, she found a glimmer of hope in the warmth of his embrace.
"I know. I am so so sorry, Marvolo. I - I.......I lov..love you"
As Lily's confession hung in the air, Marvolo froze for a moment, his mind racing with a whirlwind of emotions. He had suspected her feelings for him, but hearing them spoken aloud still caught him off guard.
"I already knew," he admitted softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "I've been waiting for you to be comfortable with the idea."
Lily's heart fluttered at his words, a mixture of relief and uncertainty washing over her. She took a deep breath, gathering her courage as she made her next request.
"Marvolo," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "Please... kiss me."
But Marvolo shook his head gently, his expression filled with a rare tenderness. "No, Lily," he replied, his voice gentle but firm. "Not like this. You're hurting right now and you do not fully comprehend what you are asking for."
Lily nodded, her heart sinking with disappointment but understanding his reasoning. "I... I understand," she said softly, her voice tinged with sadness. "Thank you, Marvolo."
