"He's gonna need a gun, knife and a back up knife."

"Two shirts, his jumper and long trousers."

"I have a screwdriver somewhere in these drawers. He should take that too."

"I will pack him shorts to sleep with so that he can be comfortable."

"Guys..."

"Breath mints and chewing gum. Your toothpaste and brush is already in there, but the gum will stop your mouth going dry if you run out of water."

"He shall be gone for two days, Addy. Should you think two pairs of underwear and socks will suffice?"

"Guys, I already packed-."

"Pack three just in case."

"Of course; three socks and three underwear. He will wear his hat and his snood so we need not think of that."

"Maybe we should pack another hat as well? Just in case."

"You're right, my darling, pack him a second hat."

"Guys!" Daniels amused voice rises through the air around the cabin. "Stop!"

With Lily frantically grabbing clothes from his dresser and Adeline stood by the edge of the bed with a checklist and his backpack, the two of them jolt at the sound; their movements halting and their heads whipping up to look at him.

"Stop?" Lily is the first to speak. "We cannot, my petal, we must ensure you have everything required for your journey."

"I'd already packed my bag," Daniel chuckles.

"What? That bag on the ground over there?" Adeline asks, and Daniel nods. She scoffs when he does. "The stuff you had in that bag was ridiculous. You're going to attack a Wicked compound, not off out on holiday."

"Addy is correct, dearest," Lily then chimes in, resuming her previous task and folding his underwear and socks before strolling to the backpack on the bed and neatly placing them inside. "You did not acquire nearly enough supplies for your trip."

Daniel rolls his eyes. The two of them have been this way for over a month now - forty-two days - since it was initially agreed that he would be allowed out on these adventures, in fact. This will be his first outing since that agreement, due to the rigorous training Matt and Oscar had instructed him to endure before finally 'clearing him for the field'.

Forty-two days of training, forty-two days of pep talks, forty-two days of 'are you sure's and 'it is okay to change your mind', forty-two days of far too little sleep and far too much combat practice, but above all else, forty-two days of hearing Adeline and Lily ramble on about the importance of safety in the Scorch.

As though he didn't live there for a year. As though he doesn't live there now.

He has learned in these forty-two days, however, that there is no use in arguing - with either of them. So, rather than try to fight it, he merely lets out a long sigh. "Fine. Do what you need to do."

There is a knock at the door, and Nick walks in. "Hey, Ads," he greets in a questioning tone, his slightly confused eyes skimming across what he holds in his hand. "I managed to get that pan you wanted... what exactly do you need it for?"

Daniel's expression screws, and his brows scrunch. "A frying pan?!" he exclaims. "The hell do I need a frying pan for?"

"Just in case," she tells him, hurrying over to Nick, mumbling a quick, "thanks," and smiling before rushing back to stuff it in the backpack.
