Ellie had just got the call from 13 management to tell her that she had gotten the role for the tour. She was shocked and honestly couldn't believe the fact that despite her young age they would still want her. She had been informed that various adults on the tour had agreed to take guardianship of the young girl while she was over in America practicing and also while they were traveling around the world. This gave her the options of a few people who she could become roommates with.
Most of her options were people who also had to move away from home for rehearsals so it just meant that they would all share one apartment together. Ellie being Ellie didn't really prioritize this part, being more excited about her new job and her career finally taking off she didn't think to select her option of which accommodation she would like.
Her parents had chosen the cheapest option for her and decided that it would be the cheapest way for them to get her away.
As Ellie landed she got picked up by a private driver who took her to her accommodation. This was a totally new experience for the young girl, flying anywhere never mind alone was something that she never did. She had never been on vacation either so it was all overly exciting. The first night at the place was erased from Ellie's mind as soon as she awoke the next day. Clearly the jet lag and excitement of it all just took over that evening as she couldn't even remember.
It wasn't long before Ellie found herself on the way to the first day of rehearsals. One of her roommates had agreed to take her to and from rehearsals every day instead of her getting a taxi alone so she didn't have to worry about any expat money. Being so young and a in a new country alone this did help settle her down a little.
Upon her arrival at rehearsals, Ellie made her way over to one side of the large room where all dancers had been directed to put their bags and things. She wore a cute sweatshirt and leggings and some brand new shoes. She didn't think that much dancing would actually take place as it would mostly be learning formations.
She made her way over to the crowd, standing at the back of all the people making a huge fuss about being around Taylor. She had been taught to be professional, there's a time to fangirl and that time wasn't at work. "Hey I wanna speak to you all, there's this girl called Ellie please could she make her way over to me."
Ellie's pov:
I heard my name, Taylor's voice and she said my name! I made my way over carefully weaving my way through the crowd of people before slowly walking over to her. My hands were shaking and fidgeting while I walked. I could feel my legs also beginning to shake.
I looked up to see Taylor's sweet smile and her arm reaching out to bring me next to her. I could feel myself panicking, was I in trouble? How could I be losing my job so soon? I questioned myself and my ability about these challenges now. "Hey everyone I just wanted you all to meet Ellie, she is the youngest member of our tour family being just 17 so I would like you all to keep a look out for her and make sure that she knows where to be and what to be doing, if she needs help, help her out. Everyone here has worked on a tour and Ellie here hasn't so please make her feel welcome!"
I smiled a little, I could feel Taylor holding onto my hand and keeping me close to her while she spoke. No one had ever put in the effort to make me feel seen and actually wanted me to get help too. I made my way back to the crowd after thanking Taylor and his behind the crowd right at the back. She began her big speech.
"Okay so I'm just going to start off by mentioning a few things, after that we will give you some time to all talk and get to know each other and then make a start on the opening." Taylor began. I was trying so hard not to zone out. I could barely hear her, never mind see her.
"So firstly I would like to thank you all for working on this project with me. The tour is officially going to be called The Eras Tour. It sounds insane but this show is going to be 3 hours possibly longer and will include over 40 songs. To ensure that it is safe for you all there may be some songs and sets where a few of you may not be included and that is solely so that you can have a breather. Please do not take this personally." She stated. We all know I'll be in that "few" every time the full dance cast isn't included. I'll be in the least parts.
I saw some handouts being sent around us all as a group before everyone moved to the side, grabbing a chair each and sitting in a circle. No one handed me one, no one told me to join the circle. I must have looked confused as I noticed Taylor approaching me and grabbing a chair, placing it next to hers. "You sit right there." She told me.
Was I in trouble? I shouldn't have zoned out.
Multiple dancers tried to get in between us both, everyone wanting to sit by Taylor however every time she would reach over for my chair, keeping it in place. I looked over at her terrified and she just smiled a little before looking at the large group of us all. She must have noticed I didn't have the paper handout part way through when she asked everyone to write something next to a specific song and I didn't move. She handed over her own copy which had all of the notes already written by it and got herself another pre annotated one.
I smiled a little looking over it. She had initials next to a few songs, those must be the ones who aren't in that specific song. Some songs had none of us.
I studied the set list carefully, it was amazing and the thought that must have gone into it is incredible. The songs all worked so well together and I could already imagine what it would be like.
She told us to flip over the page revealing the stage set out that she planned. Oh. My. God. It looked so amazing and unique. I just couldn't wait to get started and learn all of the dances.
Everyone eventually stood up, walking over to their bags and getting out some food. I hadn't brung any, not because I didn't want to but because I wasn't the most organized or the best at preparing lunch and making anything more interesting than a sandwich. I hate sandwiches because they get soggy. Who would want to eat soggy bread? Not me.
Most of the dancers seemed to know at least one other person there, they have been doing this longer than me so I guess they have worked with each other or Taylor beforehand. This gave me a slight disadvantage as I didn't really fit in with their groups so I was kinda just left to my own thing, I didn't mind it. If it meant I'd eat lunch alone that's fine it gives me a break from being so anxious.
While everyone ate I noticed footsteps approaching me. I could tell it was Taylor before I even had to look up. My head slowly panned up to meet her stern gaze. "You're going to have to eat or you can't rehearse."
Uh oh. That's me out already on my first day. Not even for something I purposely planned.
