Boom! A massive explosion of fireworks lit up the night sky, casting colorful lights across the village as Leeway sprinted away from the shopkeeper's store. The sounds of crackling pyrotechnics and the distant shouts of the authorities filled the air. Leeway, our 18-year-old protagonist, was celebrating his birthday in the most spectacular way he could imagine: by setting off every single firework in the expo store. Now, he and his friends were fleeing from the cops.

"Ha ha ha! That was epic!" Leeway shouted, his breath visible in the chilly night air.

"I knew I shouldn't have come," Janet muttered, glancing over her shoulder.

"What do you mean, Janet? It's Leeway's eighteenth birthday," Mike said, panting as he kept pace.

"I don't plan on getting arrested today," Janet snapped back, her eyes wide with concern.

The group darted behind an abandoned building, pressing themselves against the wall as the police ran past, their flashlights casting long, searching beams.

Leeway sighed in relief. "They missed us, ha ha. Wasn't that fun? Where should we go next?"

"Home, please?" Janet suggested, her voice tinged with exasperation.

"Nah, you only turn eighteen once; gotta make it count," Leeway insisted, his eyes shining with excitement.

"Sensei's gonna kill us if he finds out we were back in the village again," Janet warned, crossing her arms.

"He won't find out," Leeway said with a mischievous smile.

"Yeah, Janet, stop being a grinch. Plus, we didn't get our boy here a cake yet. We do that, then we can leave," Mike added, trying to lighten the mood.

"Mike's right. Cake first, then we leave, promise," Leeway said, holding up his hands in a gesture of peace.

Janet rolled her eyes. "Ugh, fine. Let's get this over with."

As they walked down the deserted streets, Leeway's heart raced with anticipation. The thrill of the night's events filled him with a sense of adventure. Janet, however, remained wary, her eyes scanning for any signs of trouble.

They soon reached the bakery, its windows dark and its door firmly shut. Through the glass, they spotted a magnificent cake, adorned with intricate designs and bright candles.

"How about that one?" Mike suggested, pointing to the cake.

"That's perfect," Leeway agreed, his eyes widening in delight. "Let's get in there and take it," he said with a grin.

"Okay, watch my back," Janet instructed. She pulled out a small device she called the interslit, a tool she had designed herself. It hummed softly as she made a precise hole in the wall of the bakery.

Mike slipped through the opening and quickly grabbed the cake. "Told you it wouldn't take too long," he said with a smile as he reemerged.

"Yeah, whatever. Hurry up before we get caught," Janet urged, her nerves on edge.

Suddenly, a rattle echoed from the dark corner of the store. The group turned to see an old lady standing there, a shotgun in her hands.

"GET OUT OF MY STORE, YOU THIEVES!" she shouted.

BOOM! The shotgun roared, and the old lady cocked it back, ready to fire again. Mike's heart dropped. He leaped back through the hole and ran.

The noise attracted the authorities. As the group dashed down a dark alley, they found themselves cornered. They turned to run the other way but were quickly surrounded.

"Dammit!" Leeway cursed, looking for a way out.

"What did I tell you all? We should have just left, but no," Janet scolded.

"Please save the 'I told you so' for later, Janet," Mike said, trying to stay calm.

"No, I wanted to say it now before we... you know, go to jail for life," Janet replied.

As they were about to be arrested, a sudden poof of smoke enveloped the area. In the blink of an eye, all the cops were down.

"AH SHI-" the group exclaimed in unison.

"What did I say about swearing?" A stern voice interrupted. It was Master Dai, their sensei. He swiftly smacked each of them on the head. "And what did I say about coming to this village?" Another round of smacks. "What did I say about stealing?" He finished with three more slaps.

"Can you finish lecturing us after we get back to the dojo, Sensei?" Leeway asked, rubbing his head.

"And I will. Now, let's go back to the dojo!" Master Dai commanded, leading them away from the scene.
