After the chaotic events in the old town, Leeway and his friends found themselves on cleaning duty. Master Dai was determined to make them understand the consequences of their actions, putting them to work scrubbing the dojo from top to bottom. He wanted to see his reflection on the wooden floors by the time they were done.
"Hurry up, you missed a spot," Master Dai commanded, pointing with his staff.
"Okay, I see it, Sensei," Leeway replied, wiping the sweat from his brow.
"This is so unfair," Janet grumbled as she polished the floor.
"Do crime together, you do the time together," Master Dai retorted sternly.
"Sensei, can we get a break? We've been cleaning for six hours non-stop," Mike pleaded, his voice tinged with exhaustion.
"You should have thought about that before you all did what you did. People could have gotten hurt," Master Dai replied sharply.
"Us get hurt? We're trained for stuff like that, Sensei," Leeway argued, his pride showing.
"Yeah, we could have taken those cops down if we really wanted to," Mike added.
"First, you all weren't trained to blow up half a street with fireworks! Second, I'm more worried about the poor officers I had to take down thanks to my dumb students," Master Dai said, his patience wearing thin.
"I have an IQ of 150; far from dumb," Janet retorted.
"Could have fooled me last night, Janet," Master Dai said, pointing to a spot she had missed.
"When you're done, I need Leeway to meet me in my room. I have something for you."
Two hours later, after finishing their cleaning duties, the group made their way to Sensei Dai's room. They found him sitting on the floor with a box in front of him.
"Yo, what's that, sir?" Mike asked curiously.
"Oh, Sensei, a gift for me?" Leeway asked with a touch of sarcasm.
"Actually, Leeway, it is. I shouldn't give it to you after the incident you all pulled last night. But you're 18 now, and you've completed all your training, so you deserve it," Master Dai said, sliding the box over to Leeway.
"What do you all think it is?" Janet asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Obviously, he finally got a weapon," Mike speculated.
"I don't know. Let's find out," Leeway said, excitement in his voice as he opened the box.
Inside, Leeway found a strange-looking short sword.
"Ah, sweet! Sensei, you made me a dagger?" Leeway asked, admiring the weapon.
"It's too long to be a dagger, Leeway," Janet corrected.
"Well, it's too short to be a sword, ain't it?" Mike added.
"It's called Sikei. I don't really know a lot about it, but I did some research on who might. An old friend, a spiritual teacher, we are going to travel to meet soon," Master Dai explained.
"That's cool and all, but where did you find it, Master Dai?" Leeway asked.
"That's the weird thing, Leeway. It was with you when I found you as a baby," Master Dai revealed.
"Wow, so like your birth sword... I wish I had a birth weapon," Mike said, looking envious.
"Okay, all of you, get some rest. We've got some traveling to do early in the morning," Master Dai instructed.
"Okay, Master Dai," the group replied in unison, heading to their rooms.
It was 2 in the morning when Leeway had a strange dream. He was in a laboratory, surrounded by chaos and fighting. As he ran down a dark hall, he saw a boy with dark blue eyes and dark skin, repeatedly yelling for help. Just as Leeway reached out to him, he was jolted awake by someone calling his name.
"LEEWAY!!!" Mike screamed in distress.
Leeway darted out of his room and saw Janet, Mike, and Master Dai engaged in a fierce battle with an unknown clan. They were holding their own, but the situation was dire.
"Who are these people?" Leeway shouted as he struck one of the attackers.
"I'll explain later. Right now, don't drop your guard for anything. Just know this clan is very dangerous," Master Dai warned.
"Okay, sir," the group replied, focusing on the fight.
They battled tirelessly, managing to take down all their enemies—or so they thought. A shadowy figure emerged, more powerful than any they had faced before.
"There's no way you found me already," Master Dai muttered, his eyes narrowing.
"Who is this guy, Sensei?" Mike asked, his voice trembling.
Master Dai handed Leeway a piece of paper. "I need you to take this and get out of here."
"Sensei, we're not leaving you," Leeway protested.
"On that paper are the coordinates to the person I told you about earlier. I need you, Leeway, to figure out your origin, who you are," Master Dai insisted.
"You really expect us to leave you, Sensei? This guy can't be all that strong," Leeway argued.
"Yeah, we can beat him!" Mike and Janet echoed.
"Come and try, because I promise you this is all your grave," the figure taunted.
"I'm telling you all aren't yet ready for this challenge," Master Dai said, his voice stern.
The mysterious man lunged at them, slashing at Janet, but Master Dai blocked the attack. The students, following their master's orders, ran outside. They barely had time to breathe when Master Dai was thrown through a window, landing in front of them. The figure followed, leaping out after him.
"FATHER!!!" the group screamed.
"I'm fine," Master Dai assured them, vanishing and reappearing behind the attacker, stabbing him in the gut.
"Good job, Sensei. I knew you could do it. Let's go," Leeway said, relief washing over him.
"You thought that was gonna kill me," the figure sneered. "Ha ha, after all these years, you're still a joke."
He slashed at Dai with a dagger attached to his right hand. Master Dai blocked but was immediately hit with a hard knee and thrown back.
"No more running, Dai. Time for you to die in front of your pathetic students," the figure declared, aiming for Dai's throat.
Just as it seemed like the end for Master Dai, Janet jumped in front of him, taking the blade to her gut.
"No!" Mike yelled, tears streaming down his face.
Leeway stood in shock. "There's no way."
Seeing Janet bleeding out, something snapped in Master Dai. His pupils shrank, and an overwhelming power surged through him.
"Oops, wrong target," the figure laughed.
With a mighty punch, Dai sent the attacker crashing through everything in sight. He rushed to his two remaining students, who were frozen in shock.
"I know you have a lot of emotions right now, but I need you to get away from here," Master Dai urged, grabbing them and carrying them to safety with his newfound strength. "Go now."
"Master Dai? Is Janet...?" Leeway asked, trembling.
"I'm going to get her. While I leave, you two need to go. I'm serious," Master Dai said, dashing back into the fray.
Leeway tried to go back, but Mike stopped him. "Where are you going, Leeway?"
"Where do you think? We never leave each other behind," Leeway replied.
"We obviously can't beat him right now. Let's do what Sensei says, please. I'm not trying to have me or you die. One is enough," Mike said, tears in his eyes.
"Fine, okay. Let's head to wherever Sensei wants us to go, and they'll meet up when they can," Leeway agreed reluctantly.
They set off to find the spiritual teacher their sensei had mentioned, feeling guilty but trusting Master Dai. They held onto the hope of seeing Janet again, determined to uncover the mysteries of Leeway's past.
