The aftermath of that dragon egg shenanigan was huge. They succeeded in getting the baby dragon out of Hogwarts. But for some reason, the three of them Ronald, Neville and Hermione were caught. And in one night, Gryffindor was deducted a hundred and fifty points.
Hermione rested her head on the table, not seeming to want to sit up. On the opposite side, Harry looked over, and sighed.
"Come on, it's not that bad. You can totally earn those fifty points back with ease."
For Harry, it wasn't such a big deal. Hey, it happened, and he didn't feel the need to worry or be sad about it, especially since it had nothing to do with him, well, except he lent them his invisible cloak.
"Yeah, that's right." Said Hermione, unable to hide the sadness and disappointment in her voice. "But I still feel like an idiot."
"Why, Hermione? Why?"
Harry asked, and Hermione knew well that he wasn't asking her why she felt she was stupid, but the reason for it all. And, to be honest, she wasn't too sure what reason she had in mind either.
She continued to sigh, and closed her eyes. After a long while, she spoke softly, giving her reasons.
"It was... a rush of excitement." Hermione raised her head, a bit of despair in her eyes. She scratched her head, making her frizzy hair even messier. "It's like, a feeling of being included. It's hard to explain, but that feeling made me confused and forget everything. At that point, all I thought about was, ahhhh, maybe I would have the chance to be the Gryffindor heroine that everyone loves. Like, be courageous, and fight for the weak."
On the other side, Harry shook his head slightly. Apparently the girl hasn't forgotten her dream yet. Dream of being a Gryffindor girl, being popular and loved.
Harry didn't know what to say, and he didn't really understand Hermione's dream either. Sure, he had his own desires, and he would do anything to achieve them. But yearning to be liked by everyone? It was difficult to understand. To him, other people's opinions of him were completely insignificant. Like him, hate him,... Harry didn't care.
Seeing someone try so hard to win the approval of everyone like Hermione, made Harry reflect on himself. Was that reasonable, or was it due to his emotional deficiencies?
"I should have known." Hermione stretched, trying to look normal, even though her eyes couldn't hide the sadness. "Well, now it's back to where it started - everyone in my house hates me."
Harry tilted his head, looking at her with complicated eyes. He wanted to cheer and comfort his friend, but he didn't know how. Should he sugarcoat his words, or be strict, or actually say his true thoughts?
"Harry, please stop me in the future when I'm about to do something stupid. Like, please hit me hard on the head or something. I don't want to be this stupid again."
"You know I won't."
Without looking at Hermione, Harry said as he continued to take notes on the last lines of his work. Well, it was easy, second year knowledge.
"Hermione, I'm not one to judge what's right or wrong. Hell, I'm not even sure how I felt about that. In my opinion, yes, it was a stupid thing to do, but then, didn't you guys basically succeed? Perhaps because I am not familiar with the gamekeeper, I have no sympathy for him. But if someone I care about was in big trouble, I would probably help them in any way possible. Come to think of it, helping others like you did is not a bad thing. I hate to admit this, but maybe I'm wrong, and you're a true Gryffindor."
Wow, damn it, Harry hated that he had become such a talker. He frowned, a bit dissatisfied with the direction he was going in his personal development. He had always told himself that he needed to become a cold person, but it seemed like he was deviating more and more from his set goal. He wasn't sure it was a bad thing, but he was clearly unhappy with things he couldn't grasp clearly. Like, sure, first became talkative, what would happen next? Crying like a little B?
