Epilogue 2: A warm, possible Christmas
Harry's twenty-seventh Christmas was not very merry. There were some problems with his family's vaults in Japan, and his husband had to go abroad to deal with them. Therefore, Harry could only celebrate Christmas without his husband for the first time. Come to think of it, since they've been dating, they've celebrated Christmas together almost every year. Damn, time has passed so quickly. In just a blink of an eye, twelve years have passed.
Harry remembered what his husband had said on their wedding day, that he would never let Harry be alone for the rest of his life, and he smiled. Basically, Harry's husband kept his promise, well, except this year. But hey, someone gotta handle the family's business. So even though he was a little sad, Harry still didn't think much about it. Instead, he felt more secure, because his husband was a trustworthy person, and handled most of the family's financial matters on his behalf.
After checking all the Christmas decorations of the mansion where he had been living, Harry decided to go to the storeroom to take a look at a few things from the past. On the occasion of his memories flooding back, Harry felt a little nostalgic and happy.
Since it was Christmas, Harry opened his Christmas gift box. Inside were all the Christmas gifts he had received since he was eleven years old. Of course, there were a few meaningful gifts that Harry displayed in his office, but the majority of the things he was given were here.
In Harry's memory, Christmas when he was eleven years old was a special occasion, because it was the first time Harry got to celebrate a real Christmas, instead of locking himself in his bedroom like the years before.
Harry immediately smiled when he saw something in the box. It was a Christmas gift he received from Anthony when he was eleven years old. It was a delicate porcelain doll, looking like a little angel. It had blonde hair, looking like a miniature Anthony Goldstein. Harry remembered the card that came with this gift, which he kept in his nightstand. Inside the card was Anthony's Christmas greeting to Harry, as well as a promise to always be Harry's best friend. Basically, Anthony also kept his promise.
Right after that, Harry picked up a box of crayons that had never been used. It was a gift from Terry. The boy was sweet, and more sensitive than he appeared. Terry knew that Harry often drew, so he chose this gift. When Harry was eleven years old, this box of crayons could be said to be the most expensive one.
Michael gave Harry a box of delicious chocolates, and Harry ate them all. After that, he used wrapping paper and replaced the chocolate with pebbles to keep as souvenirs. Sure, it was only candies, but Harry still treasured it.
Hermione's gift was a lovely snow globe. Although it had no special effects, at that time, Harry liked it very much. The tiny mansion inside the snow globe was the model Harry aimed for when he designed his residence.
That year, Cedric gave him a white teddy bear, with a silver bell hanging from one ear. It was embarrassing, but there was indeed a time when this teddy bear lay on Harry's bed, and fell into peaceful sleep with him.
Neville, on the train before Christmas, gave Harry an interesting gift. It was a small succulent enclosed in a glass cage, and did not need to be cared for or watered. It's hard to believe, when at that time Harry didn't even consider him a friend. But well, look how far they've come.
Ron's gift that Christmas touched Harry quite a bit. It was a wooden model of a falcon, and Harry could see that it had been carved by Ron himself. It wasn't perfect, and it looked a bit silly, but it had all the spirit of the Weasley boy.
Looking at these things made Harry feel extremely nostalgic. He felt the corners of his eyes warm, a feeling of happiness seemed to flow continuously through his body.
Sure, his life had many ups and downs, but overall, he was happy.
He chose several things, including other gifts he received in later years. Then he went into the living room, and placed them on top of the fireplace.
Just as Harry was admiring the gifts from previous years, the mansion door opened, bringing inside a bit of snow and wind. Harry turned around, and was stunned to see that the person entering was none other than his husband.
"Hey!"
The man smiled, quickly took off his coat, and came closer, hugging Harry tightly. He looked a bit tired, but the moment he hugged Harry, there was an undisguised happiness on his face.
After a few dozen seconds of being dazed against his husband's warm chest, Harry raised his head, looked into his eyes filled with love, and asked:
"Why did you come home so early?"
His husband's two large hands cupped Harry's cheeks, and before planting a few kisses on his lips, his husband replied:
"Well, I promised, right? I will never let you be alone."
Although Harry felt extremely satisfied and happy with his answer, he still couldn't help but gently push the chest of the man hugging him, and raised his eyebrows in challenge.
"Who said I'm lonely? Don't forget James and Lily."
"Geez, those brats."
His husband pretended to wince, then planted a few dozen more kisses all over Harry's face.
They hugged and kissed for more than ten minutes afterward. When they let go of each other, Harry's husband saw the items on top of the fireplace. He raised his eyebrows at Harry, and said:
"Ooh, memories. Mine was the best, right?"
Harry rolled his eyes, once again lightly punching his man in the chest. His husband was not angry, but continued to hold him tightly in his arms, constantly swaying, his naughty hands tending to move downwards.
"Your Christmas present is in the bedroom. Luckily I haven't sent it yet."
"No need." His husband spoke, his voice as warm as summer, and Harry couldn't help but feel a little weak. "I'm holding what I want the most right here."
As they kissed passionately, Harry thought to himself - yeah, I can say the same.
