Beth would sail beneath the waters every evening in search of precious treasures to collect.

Ever since she could remember, when she was still a young sea monster, she used to collect these kinds of objects that brought her joy and made her look more attractive when she used them in front of the boys she liked.

She cherished those memories a lot, and she had the habit of always following the same paths underground and across lagoons in order to find lost objects, gems, or amulets that she enjoyed keeping.

In order to eat them later.

Her species could eat anything, and she loved finding the brightest and most beautiful objects, showing them off and flaunting them, only to then consume them and savor their taste. Undoubtedly, a pleasure she hadn't been able to share with anyone, but still enjoyed being able to do without being looked down upon, as nobody had lived near her for a while.

Nobody, except her two new pets.

For this reason, she enjoyed being able to gift them the most eye-catching objects she found, and then submerge again to see what else she could bring to cheer them up as much as it cheered her to find those precious objects.

At that moment, she was near a sunken ship. The cave where she kept her pets was connected to a large canal of several tunnels underwater, tunnels she already knew by heart, but always went to just one. A ship that had once been carried by the dark waters downwards.

Inside the ship, one could find various skeletons, treasure chests, and several fish that roamed from side to side, but fled as soon as they saw her.

She was gigantic, not as much as that ship, but enough to have tried sitting on it out of mere curiosity.

She used to find many treasures there; there was always something she could find. Many times, even new objects would appear after she had removed them from their place after a while. Most likely, the water currents or people above the lakes had thrown away or lost those objects.

She moved her head from side to side inside the ship, sniffing around as usual. It was right there when a bright light illuminated her face, it was a lantern that was turned on and pointing at her.

But it wasn't alone; someone was holding it.

Beth stared at the person, and they stared back.

She hadn't seen a human for a good while, and this one seemed to be wearing a completely black suit, and one of those devices they used to breathe underwater. Beth was curious.

She wanted that device.

So, she stretched her claws towards the human, who swam back into the ship, closing a door behind him. But Beth didn't hesitate to break the door with a swipe of her paw, scaring the human to the back of the room.

She tried to stretch her claws into that room, but she couldn't reach the human, who pressed against the wall as best he could. Finally, she gave up and left.

The human stayed in the room for a moment, looking around for another exit that wasn't through that destroyed door. Fortunately, there was a hole he could pass through on his side, he swam there and exited, starting to swim to the surface.

But Beth hadn't actually left; she had waited outside to catch him. She stretched her paw with her unsheathed claws, and before she could grab him, the human noticed at the last second and activated a button on the arm of his suit, covering himself with an electric field, causing the monster to quickly retract her paw.

The human kept swimming to the surface, swimming as fast as he could.

Beth watched him, somewhat annoyed. She knew that if she managed to get those visors and the human's device, her pets would surely have more fun with them than with the things she already brought them.

So, she stayed hidden, waiting to see if he came back down.

On the other hand, on the surface, a group of people was in a van waiting for the diver they had sent. They were a group of mafia members searching for lost treasures to sell.

Finally, they saw the guy they had sent had returned, but he looked completely frightened.

"Hmm? Hey, kid, what's wrong?" asked the boss of the mafia, a man with a denim jacket, somewhat fat, with a mustache and brown hair. "Did you bring something? If not, go back down. You won't leave until you bring us something valuable."

"There... there's a legendary beast... It almost devoured me!"

At the boy's cry, the mafia member kicked him in the arm, knocking him to the ground.

"A legendary beast..."

The group of mafia members started to look interested, while the boy in the diving suit rubbed his arm.

"Well, change of plans. You're going to hunt it. If you manage to kill it, we'll go for its body with our equipment. And then, you'll be free."

"...What?!"
