Zebedee Glenn
.
What a disaster. She's a lunatic.
I jerked my head up and slightly laughed at myself. What the heck am I thinking? Why did I even go for a test with her? She's tough, alright, and it seems like she could do a lot better than what I've seen in her today. But damn, I don't want to see her again.
I composed myself as the rest of the members were back in their seats. My father looked at me confusingly.
"Where did your umbrella girl go, Glenn?" Akiko asked. He took off his thick glasses and cleaned it.
I gritted my teeth. "She's gone."
"Oh, pinaalis mo? Hindi mo man lang pinasabay sa ibang umbrella girls para sa refreshments?" Ngumisi siya at sandaling napailing.
I cleared my throat and didn't answer. I pretended that the conversation didn't exist as everyone looked at me now, waiting for an answer.
My father cleared his throat, trying to cut off the conversation, and the door opened. The staff served our food.
Now that I'm looking at the food, I cannot help but feel a little guilty about what I did to her.
It's inconsiderate of me not giving her drinks at all. To think, she drove me here in time.
Damn, I hate this guilt of feeling.
Everyone went quiet, and as everyone started eating, the topic started. It's all about the business again from their own perspective line.
I want to take a rest and forget all the fucking formula of making the project plans. It's not that I hate numbers. I love it to the bones, but I was hoping that people around here are different. But no, they're not. It's all the same.
I miss the boys. I wonder when is our next meet-up? It's not until the end of next month, as everyone is busy.
I excused myself after finishing my meal as my phone vibrated. It was my mother.
"Kasama mo ba ang Papa mo? Someone told me that you were with someone, and it was a woman. Who is she? May tinatago ka ba sa amin ng Papa mo, Glenn?" My mother sounded stern, yet her voice played a wit of excitement. I know my mother. She has her spies everywhere around here when it comes to me.
"Mum, she's one of the applicants in my firm. I was just giving her a test." I unbutton my polo shirt as I feel hot.
"Did she pass?"
"No. She did not."
"Oh, what a shame. Why don't you lower your standard, son? I'm sure there are a lot of them that could do the job. Don't be a perfectionist, Glenn. You are not even perfect."
I smirked and slightly laughed. My mother was the only one who could slap me in the face with her words. She's savage but with a heart.
"By the way, I have organized the materials for the make over of you house. It will be fully furnish in six weeks. Nakakahiya naman sa fiancee mo kung hindi pa maayos ang bahay mo. Kaya ako na ang gumawa."
Nagtagpo agad ang kilay ko at napatingala akong saglit sa langit.
I swore in the back of my mind and whirled halfway. I lied. That's the only way to save my brother, Morris. I need to tell them that I already have a girl that I'm planning to marry, and she's in New York.
