Chapter 9: Beauty and The Nerd

Ally Pov.

It was the next day, The day I had to face him. I dreaded this day all night, I even tried to pretend I was sick so I didn't have to go today. But of course it didn't work and now I was being forced to see Calum again after what happened yesterday. I don't know what I'm going to say and its not like I can Ignore him we still have a project to do.

I spent that night crying over how rude I was, I'm not this type of girl. I hate it, I hate being in this situation.

1st and 2nd period was spent with whispers and gossip about it but I could hardly focus on any of it. All I could think about was what I was going to say to Calum.

The bell rang for 3rd period and my heart sunk. I slowly walked to the room trying to keep my head up, but honestly this was a lot harder to deal with then any other geekly guy I've made fun of or been rude to.

Why?!

I finally made it to the horrid class room and took my seat. I saw Calum sitting in his usual seat behind me. I tried not to make eye contact but it didn't seem to faze him at all. He was just sitting there reading a book normally.

The teacher had us immediately get into our groups and finish the project, This was the hard part.

I turned around to sit next to him and he slightly looked up from his book.

"Hi." I said feeling my stomach drop.

He looked up from his book to me and did a small half smirk that was cold yet inviting, but it didn't last long and he went back to his book.

"I really liked your idea yesterday. Maybe we should like get started writing it." I said trying to break the silence and tear him away from his book.

He grabbed a book mark from out of his binder and placed it in the section he was just reading. He finally put it away and pulled out some papers.

"I already started, I figured you would want me to do this project for you anyways." He said not caring much for my feelings anymore.

I was shocked, he really did think I was a self centered bitch that only cared about popularity. Which I guess was true.

"Listen Calum, I'm like totally sorry about what happened yesterday. My brain was just like kinda..." I made a fart noise with my mouth to indicate that I was being a usual bubble brain.

He did a small smile but it quickly faded.

"I'm really sorry though. You have like no idea how bad I felt about that last night I like literally broke down and cried. " I said in my signature blonde voice. 

He could obviously see the sincerness in my eyes and said "I accept your wholehearted profound apology." He smiled a little brighter and said "it was cute."

I quickly turned my head so he couldn't see my face I was smiling like a idiot, he just called me cute. He thinks I'm cute!

He got a little excited and said "Ok well this is the structure in which I have planned out for our project, I still don't have all the information we need for it yet."

I looked at the paper he put in front of me and was surprised at how well thought out and organized it was. If I had wrote any of that it would be a mess.

"Yea well like we need to stay after school so we can finish this, cuz like you have alot of stuff we need to get down foreal." I said

He said "Yes but the computers here are inefficient,  most of the websites we will need are blocked. M-maybe we could go to my house I have a fully operated laptop. But that's only if you would like, we don't have to. You know What forget I said anything." He looked down at the notes.

I was feeling really quizzy inside, not sure what I should say. But the way I felt yesterday was way worse then losing a smidge of popularity cred. So I decided to say

"Yea totally."

He looked up immediately after thoughs words came out of my mouth with hope in his Gorgeous blue eyes. "R-really?" He said

"Sure." I gave him my number to text me at the end of the school day to see how to get to his house and he seemed baffled.

The bell rang and I felt SO much better!

The rest of the school day I was jotting down notes and ideas for our project.

He thinks I'm cute.

At the end of the day he sent me a text that read:

'Hello Ally,

Glad you agreed to study today, meet me in the front of the school by the bushes so we can walk to my house.

-Calum.'

Walk?! I didn't think we would have to walk getting stares from people who are well known in the social charts. Oh no. Uhhh. I decided to send him a quick text back.

'Hae I gotta do somtim b4 we go so i meet u out there in 10 mins k?'

This should give me enough time for all the more cool kids to already be half way to there homes and all the buses to be gone.

I gave my self a brain high five and the bell rang. I walked to my locker and got my things I planned to just walk around the school for awhile. As I was walking I bumped into the one and only basketball captain, Mark Johnson also known as Sydney's ex boyfriend.

"Hey Mark" I said twirling my hair unintelligently.

"Hey cutesicle" he said biting his lip.

I rolled my eyes "Hows being basketball captain?"

"Its a lot of responsibility, I'm honored to be chosen." he said like as if he had practiced that line a million times.

I was so pissed the only reason he's captain is because thats what Sydney promised him she would get him if he went through with framing Cassy. Sydney told him if he made it look like they were making out she would make sure Mark would be captain. He didn't become it by being a good player, he was good but it was rigid.

"Honored to be chosen? I don't think it was luck you became captain." I said aggressively.

"What do you mean?" he said nervously.

"I'm just saying it seemed like you would do anything, anything to get that position." I threatened and walked off. I went to the bathroom to cool off and fix myself, I just had to take a moment to breath. When I came out I checked the time, Its been 15 minutes already,? I was late!

I bolted to the door and searched for Calum, right before he was able to leave I found him on a bench grabbing is backpack about to start walking looking broken.

"Hey where are you going?" I asked panting from running after him.

"Oh Hello, I thought you had stood me up. my apologizes." He said looking extremely depressed with a hint of joy from seeing me just now. 

"I wouldn't do that." I said trying to reassure him.

"Yeah I guess your right." He said checking himself as his face became a little brighter. 

"Ready to go?" He asked.

I nodded we began walking to his house.
