"Could I get my free refill?" He asked, offering the barista his empty coffee cup with a tired look on his face.
"This is your fourth refill. At some point we need to start charging you." The female barista said strictly with her hands on her hips.
"Whatever." He answered, throwing a pair of bills on the counter, which the barista quickly shoved in the register.
"So..." She started, grabbing the coffee cup from him. "Long day at the studio?" She asked curiously, filling the cup with fresh, black coffee.
"Yeah... You have no idea how tiring it is to be a famous TV star." He chuckled, faking a smile for her.
"You do not seem happy to me, Jay." The barista said sadly, handing the cup back to the man in question. "You can wear that fancy, sparkling, blue suit and fill your hair with gel, but you're not fooling anyone. Especially not Cindy." She said, sitting down on a chair on the other side.
"I know." Jay nodded, taking a sip from his coffee. "Cindy has told me to try meeting someone new after the therapy didn't help, but how can I forget about her? She was, like, my everything..."
"You went to therapy?" The barista asked worriedly.
"Yep. Mostly because of Zane, but also because of Cole and Nya betraying me." Jay answered. "Nya told me that she still loved me and I still love her, but I don't think things can ever go back to the way they were before. I mean, she should have told me that she even saw Cole in the machine, and Cole should have told me that he never had feelings for her."
The barista just nodded.
"I know Cole is not even into girls, but in that moment when I just heard it in the junkyard, something snapped and I ruined the most important relationship to me." Jay chuckled. "And I am not talking about Nya."
"You should talk to him." She suggested.
"Not gonna work. We grew apart." Jay smiled sadly. "I don't know where Cole is. After the funeral, we just said our quick goodbyes and haven't seen or heard of him since."
"Well, at least go home then. It's getting late and you're here drinking coffee like an alcoholic drinks beer." The barista joked, earning a small laugh from Jay.
"Yeah, thanks for listening." He stood up from the chair and straightened his jacket. "See you in the morning." He said, walking out of the diner into the cold winter.
Even though his life was colorless at the moment, he had to admit that Ninjago City during christmas time was one of the prettiest things he had seen. All of the lights and the snow made a beautiful scenery. He just wished he had someone special to spend Christmas with. No. Not just someone special. Her.
He just shrugged all of the thoughts away and walked on the sidewalks, eventually arriving at the hero suite. He put in the door code and entered the suite to the sight of Cindy lying on the couch in sweatpants and tank top, watching a movie with some popcorn on the side.
"Hi." Jay said monotonically.
"Hey, blueberry." Cindy smiled. "Hard day?"
Jay just nodded and hung his winter jacket on the small coat hanger on the wall. "Yeah, Patty just drives me crazy sometimes." He chuckled.
"You knew what you were getting yourself into when you hired her to be your secretary." Cindy said sassily, throwing a piece of popcorn at Jay.
The former Blue Ninja wasn't even able to process the comment as he used his Lightning speed to catch the popcorn into his mouth. "Yeah, she's nice and cool, but sometimes too nitpicky." He laughed, starting to make his way towards his massive bedroom.
