when I was just 5 years old I moved from Clifton New jersey to Tulsa Oklahoma with my father and my brother Keith who we now call Two-bit.

When we lived in Tulsa me and two-bit became friends with a group of kids who called themselves greasers which i wasn't sure why they called themselves greasers but now that i'm older I know why.
Two-bit always hung out with the older kids like darry who is the oldest of the curtis brothers, soda-pop curtis who is the second oldest, Steve randall who one of two-bits best friends, and dallas winston who we call dally. he is always getting in trouble with the police or is always running away from them.

i always hung out with pony-boy curtis who is a year younger then me and johnny cade who was a year older then me, they were my best-friends, well my only friends really, we were always running around and getting in trouble.

my father was almost never around because he was to busy at bars and almost always drunk and my mom passed away when i was 4 and two bit was 7. the curtis' brothers mom was like my real mom, if i wasn't getting in trouble with pony and johnny or bothering the older boys then she was teaching me how to do my makeup, or curl my hair.

me, johnny, and pony were inseparable, mrs curtis often called us Pb&j which i thought was the most clever nickname on the planet at the time.

TW: mentions of abuse
she always talked to me like i was her daughter and she was my mother which really helped me be who i am today. she was even able to talk some sense into my dad which he started being around more after that and not being drunk as often, but that didn't help two bit out one bit. my father would beat two to pieces, but because mrs. curtis was always helping us out, she eventually found out about our father abusing two bit and scolded him about not being a good father in the middle of our living room one random Tuesday afternoon while i was in my room, they thought i wasn't able to hear but i anybody could hear them yelling from a mile away...

so my father decided to take me and move away, but mrs curtis thought it was best for two-bit to live with her family so he wouldn't have to deal with our dad.

so there i was at 8 years old 3 years after moving to Tulsa, I was standing on the curtis' family's front porch crying my eyes out. I knocked on the door lightly and muffled my crying a bit so they wouldn't hear me through the door.
mrs. curtis eventually answered and she didn't even have to say anything because she already knew what was going on

"im sorry sweetie" she knelt down and hugged me

"b-but why is he making me move" i say still crying my eyes out

"it's for the better, bev...why don't you go say bye to the boys and then come back out" bev is my nickname (short for beverly) they usually called me that when the felt bad for me or when they were to lazy to say my full name.

i walked into the house and stood in the doorway sobbing while the boys who were sitting on the couch and the floor looked at me like i was crazy.

two-bit, steve, soda, darry, and dally quickly burned out there cigarettes when they noticed me walk in with there mom, at the time they were all 10-13 and they had the biggest smoking addiction i've ever seen.

"what happened to her?" darry said looking at his mom who was behind me

i tried to speak but i kept stuttering because of how much i was crying, they continued to all look at me like i'm insane.

"she's moving back to new jersey" mrs curtis says keeping her hand on both of my shoulders.

they all got up and tried to defend me

"but she didn't do anything?" pony said

"why is she moving away when all of her family is here?" soda said. even though we aren't blood related, we all acted like we were one big family

two-bit however continued to stare at mickey mouse on the tv.

"two did you know about this?" darry said

"yeah" he says drinking a pop and staring at the tv

"what? and you didn't tell us?" johnny said

johnny was a loud mouth, he was always screaming at little kids on the playground.

"there was no point, you should've already expected it because you new about my father punchin me like i'm a punching bag every day"

"are you moving to?" johnny asked two-bit

"no im not moving with that scumbag of a father" he says. i stood there still sobbing

"alright boys say your goodbyes her father is waiting for her in the car" mrs curtis says as my dad honks the horn.

i gave everyone a hug and when it was time to to say goodbye to johnny and pony i broke down even more.

"i'll miss you guys" i said in a broken voice

"do you think we will ever see eachother again" pony says

"i hope so, but you guys have eachother you will be okay" i say in a quiet voice

i hug them one more time then turn to mrs curtis.

she hugs me and hands me a floral makeup bag that is so heavy.

"there's a few makeup and hair products in there and other stuff to, to keep you busy" she gives me a wink

"i'm gonna miss you bev, you are like a daughter to me" i stare at her as her eyes start to get teary.

i walk out of the house and into my dads truck.

i wave at them while the all sit on the porch and pony and johnny start running with the car as we drove away. i giggle a bit then soon they stopped and waved one last time.

my eyes still tearing up as i leaned my head on the car wondering if i'll ever see them again.
