CW for spiralling negative thoughts Yuichi has in the chapter and mentions of physical injuries. Not explicit tho.
Enjoy!-He'll have to stick around a little longer to see it for himself, he guessed.
Days passed, as the samurai was trained by the ninja, which sounds pretty controversial doesn't it? However, it stopped neither Yuichi nor Leo from growing closer to each other. Especially after the O-Bon that they celebrated together.
On the last day of the festival Leo and his family arranged a nice place to dance in with all the required decoration ready. To say Yuichi was surprised, was not to say anything, but they enjoyed this kind of a surprise. Do you want to know who enjoyed it even more? You guessed right, if you said Hana. The little kid was smiling cheekily for the entire night, emitting pure joy, which seemed contagious with how everyone else started laughing too. Even Splinter with Big Mama joined in on the fun, making their children (mostly Yuichi) teach them the moves.
-Feels like a playdate for some reason, - Splinter mumbled under his nose looking with a slight squint at his blue son being painfully hopeless and gay.
Leo spent more time near Yuichi, compared to his siblings, clearly trying to impress the rabbit with how quick he was to catch on the moves.
-Sure does! – Big Mama exclaimed with what sounded like adoration.
Yuichi, on his behalf, seemed extremely oblivious about the whole 'impressing' situation and kept embarrassing Leo with his genuine and bold compliments. At some point Big Mama caught her champion smirking at the turtle's back and that is when she realized: he knew what he was doing, and he surely was enjoying it.
'My boy.'
The night ended pleasantly, leaving everyone tired out of their minds. However, there was not a single person that didn't enjoy the event, hence why Splinter agreed (forcefully) to teach his kids more about his culture, which he didn't keep in contact with for a little too long. The excitement for the upcoming spiritual development energized the turtle siblings immediately. The amount of jumping and flapping of hands was hard to count, but it was a lot. Nevertheless, the turtles' energy vanished when their father's explanations turned out to be just him reading Wikipedia articles. You could've done better, Splinter! Shame on you, shame on you.
The best solution the siblings could come up with was asking Yuichi to teach it all to them, but how will they do it, if Leo is the only one that has the time and permission to be meeting up with him on a daily basis?
Leo became a connecting thread between his siblings and the only native Japanese culture carrier of their age – Yuichi. Not like Leo didn't enjoy it, because it gave him more opportunities to speak with the hare and hang out together. He was actually really grateful. And excited. Grateful and excited, both feelings that seemed so unusual to Leo, it was hard to accept them. So he thought about them: when he felt like that and what made him feel it.
He was grateful a lot of times in his life: for that one time Donnie made a cleaning bot for the lair or for the time when Mikey drew a huge portrait of Gram gram. Or the time when Raph came home with Yuichi and ruled out their Big Mama related situation. Or the time when Mikey actually managed to open a portal to save Leo. Especially for that. If it wasn't for his siblings' collective efforts, he would probably end up losing his mind in the prison dimension. If he stayed, would he be thankful for surviving so long? Would he feel gratitude for each of the times he managed to go unnoticed by the Kraang? Would he be grateful for being able to sit down and rest as much as a second lasts? Would he even be able to identify the so-called "gratitude"?
