POV: Olivia
I -Olivia Rodriguez - was fresh out of the military and now back in my childhood home feeling worse for wear. It was bad enough my military career ended due to me getting injured, but now I was drunk off my ass in the bathroom heaving whatever I had eaten that day into this poor toilet.
My breathes came unsteadily and my eyes were watering. I felt the burn of my stomach acid in the back of my throat as I puked my stomach contents out. I wished I'd taken my sister's advice to slow down on the beers.
No te jode...
(Fuck my life...)
"Ugh..." I groaned before another onslaught of nausea had my head back into the toilet.
I was glad my hair was short and thanked the heavens I remembered to lock the bathroom door.
What a sight I would be right about now.
The party was in full swing tonight and the house was riddled with anticipation. I had just gotten home a few days prior before my parents said they had big news for the entire family. It was bad enough that I had a severe case of jet lag, but all this excitement was throwing me off my game.
There was a soft knock on the door.
My head whipped around fast at the noise. Even while puking my guts out, I was still alert. My body was conditioned for such things. The sudden movement wasn't such a good idea though because the nausea came back in full force.
"Maña? You good in there?" Isabella – my younger sister – said in a worried tone.
"Yeah... I'm good. Promise. I'll be there in a minute." I said, trying to be as convincing as possible.
Definitely glad I locked the door...
I was currently slumped over the toilet bowl, drool and vomit trickling down the side of my mouth. I was the textbook definition of 'not fine', but somehow, I managed to prop myself up off the ground and gave my face a good slap to jostle myself to awareness.
I needed all my faculties for whatever my parents had planned.
Now moved to the sink, I splashed my face with some cold water and cleaned up the best I could to look presentable in front of my immediate family. The one good thing about tonight was that I was finally able to see my best friend, Bree, who I had not seen since I had enlisted to the army straight out of high school. The silver lining - if you will - to an otherwise shitty fucking night.
And yes...
This was the same best friend I had been in love with since we were teens.
I mentally groaned at the absentminded admission and threw open the bathroom door. I found my little sister looking more than a little fed up with my antic's. She had arms crossed and her famous scowl was scowling away in my direction.
"We are going to be late you know?" Isabella said testily.
"Yes, yes, I know. I'm ok now. Let's get a move on already." I said.
Izzy did not like the insulation that it was her doing that made us late and shot me a dangerous glare.
Oops...
I threw up my hands in surrender and followed Izzy towards the backyard where everyone had gathered.
"Olivia!" Mamá called out, probably glad I had finally arrived on the scene. "It is so good to see you." She said softly while cupping my cheek with her hand.
