POV: Olivia

Womp.

Womp.

Womp, womp, womp, womp...

With my eyes closed, I listened to the rotors of the heli spinning at speeds that would make anything a fine powder that were so familiar. These big hulking machines were a testament to our military might along with the other 600,000 pieces of machinery we have at any given moment.

And none of it is serviced correctly...

It was known that the stuff we use sometimes wasn't exactly the best of the best.

I took a deep breath and smelled everything around me.

Oil.

Sweat.

Grease.

Everything a woman could ever want.

With a small chuckle, I opened my eyes and saw the men and women who I called my family. They were the ones that had my back, let me cry on there shoulder when I wasn't feeling good, or fought anyone who fucked with me.

Not that I couldn't handle myself...

"Hey! Liv! How about you keep your eyes on the prize!" Tex yelled over the noise.

I rolled my eyes at the walking stereotype of a Texan man.

"¿Qué tal si te sacas el palo del culo?" I said back.

(How about you take the stick out of your ass?)

"Goddammit! You know I don't understand the hell you're sayin!" Tex whined.

"That was the fucking point." I deadpanned and everyone laughed.

A hand, which belonged to Don, patted Tex on the shoulder gently while he shot me a smile.

"It's okay, Tex. Someday you'll learn to fight with your own iqclass." Don said with fake sympathy.

"The hell you say!" Tex roared and everyone laughed again

Those two started arguing so I tuned them out.

I felt a nudge against my shoulder and looked over to Ruby - who I called Rubes - looking at me with a knowing grin. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the woman, but I was only annoyed because she knew what I had just been doing.

"Listening to the rotors again?" Rubes teased.

"And if I was? What then?" I asked, eyebrow raised.

"Nothing. I just wanted to know." Rubes replied with a shrug of her shoulders "But why do you do that?"

"Because it helps calm my nerves. Don't you have something you do to calm yourself down when you're in a metal tin-can flying thousands of feet in the air?" I asked.

Rubes just shrugged her shoulders again and gave me her signature cocky grin.

"Doing this doesn't really bother me. I'm an adrenaline junkie, remember?" Rubes said with a chuckle.
