Good Song

Since the years of primary school, Alex has always wanted to talk to you. However, he was... shy so he never talked to you. Besides 'good mornings,' 'hello"s and hi's,' that was it. He was scared you would think he was weird so he kept to himself and his friends. He would watch from afar how joyful you seemed playing in the playground with your friends. He ached to be your friend. Things would change soon though.

In the early teen years, Alex got out of his zone and was pushed by his friends to go talk to you. Sure enough he did and he suffered in the first stages. He was a little bit awkward and conversations ended quite quickly with a long period of silence afterwards. To you, it was comforting. To him, it was pain. He just wanted to have a continuous conversation with you that wouldn't end.

Obviously, he grew more comfortable around you and eventually invited you to hang with his friends from time to time. He always tried to take photos of you for the memories as he did with his friends, but you covered your face every chance you got. He would always think that he caught a nice photo of you, but at the end of the day when he reviewed the photos, they either came out blurry or with something in the way of your face. He would sigh in defeat each time and eventually gave up on trying to get a photo of you.

Except one day, he finally got the photo. It was the last day of school for those who were promoting to high school. There was an awards ceremony to recognize those who will move on and obviously you, your friends, him, and his friends all made it. Everyone received their recognition paper and at the end, families found their children and took many photos of them.

You were navigating through the crowd to find your mom and found that she was a couple feet away. You felt a tug at your arm which held you back. It was Alex who had a cheeky smile on his face.

"Can we please take a photo together?" He asked almost in a begging way.

"No...?" You didn't really want to take a photo. Unfortunately, your mom spotted you two and forced you to sit down on a bench and take a photo with him.

"Say cheese!" Your mom stepped back a little bit and held the tiny phone delicately.

"Cheese!"

"Cheese?"

Guess who said which. Your mom looked at the photo and shook her head. "[Y/N], you need more emotion. Be happy!"

"I'm trying!" You scooted closer to Alex with a huff. You looked at the camera dead in the lens and your mom snapped the photo. She examined it and shook her head. She was about to scold you again, but was interrupted by your friends mom walking up to her and talking to her for a good five minutes.

You slumped back into the bench and watched kids struggle to find their families or leave the school.

"What's got ya upset?" You noticed Alex staring at what you were staring.

"Nothing," you shrug. "Just thinking."

"Hm," he took the time to judge your choice of clothing for this special day. "Why are you dressed like that?"

"Like what?"

"That." Geez.

"What's the problem?" You lifted up your legs up and dusted off the dirt from flare of the dark jeans.

"You're wearing boots- you look like a cowgirl." He lifts up your left leg and pulls the jeans up a bit to expose your boots so you can look at them.

"I'm aware. I was going to wear a dress, but I ripped it... last minute." You put your leg down and fixed the fabric over the boot. Despite looking out of place, you liked the last minute outfit. Definitely wearing it again.
