Snap, Crackle, Pop

The start of physical education class was always the worst on certain days. You didn't mind stretching, only when you felt like stretching. Like another other day, you changed into the school, p.e. 'uniforms', which was either a cotton shirt of the schools' colors, stretchy shorts, or track pants that were also of the schools colors.

You walked out the lockers and saw you made a great choice in choosing the pants instead of shorts. The sky was cloudy, and it was drizzling. The peaceful moment was short-lived when you felt a hand slap behind your neck.

"Wonderful day to run the mile, ay [Y/N]?" Alex smiled a bit and moved his arm to wrap it around your shoulders.

"I think so," You shook his arm off and walked to the pavement to where your teacher was. "I wanna see you trip on dirt."

"That's quite mean," Matt did the same thing and put his arm around your shoulder, which resulted in him getting pushed away.

"Just for that, I hope everyone trips."

"Rude."

"And to the left."

You, along the other students in the class, sat on the field with your legs spread out, and your right arm extended out to grip your left shoe. One of the gym teachers led the stretching for the timed mile run. You pressed your forehead to your knee and looked up to see some struggling students. They either had their leg bent, didn't even try, or did try.

"Right."

You switched arms and turned to your right. You could almost touch your shoe with your fingers just grazing it. You looked up again and saw Alex to your right, who was struggling with keeping his foot straight. After a couple more seconds, he gave up and just sat there ripping the grass.

"Middle."

You huffed at his actions and placed your hands on your knees, and pushed forward to the ground, your chest a couple inches away from the dirt. You looked at him again and saw he wasn't even paying attention. "You're not going to stretch, Alex?"

He turned his gaze to you and shook his head, "You're being a show-off."

"How?" You have a sly smile, "It just seems like you're jealous that I can stretch properly."

The teacher got up from the spot on the floor and ordered the last two stretches, "Now, try and go for the splits. Yes, guys have to do it, too."

Small complaints were heard, and you followed what she said. You slid on your left and saw how close you were to reaching a full left split. You turned your head and saw Alex and his friends not even halfway down. It was a funny sight, but you kept in your laughs.

The teacher then told the group to try the opposite side, the right side. You got out of the left and slowly slid on your right. You were doing good, more than halfway. Thinking you could go lower and also wanting to show off, you pushed yourself down, and you heard a ripping sound. Immediately, you felt a burning sensation in your right leg and got out of the position. You pulled your legs together and softly laid on the grass.

"Are you okay?" Your friend, Eve, asked as she heard the sound too. She was on her knees looking down at you as she saw you place your hand over your mouth.

"Did you hear that? Oh my g-, " You ran your hands down your face in embarrassment. You injured yourself and did it in the most embarrassing way possible. You injured yourself in front of Alex, the boy you had a tiny crush on.

You looked at Alex and saw he was minding his own business, about to stand up and talk to his friends. You sighed and got up with the help of your friend.

"What was that sound? Was it your leg? Where do you feel the pain?" She asked as she held onto your arm in worry.

You picked up your leg and felt it hurt a bit, "It hurts on the backside of my thigh, but I'm fine, right?"

Eve gave you a look of uncertainty, "...I hope you are. You probably messed up your hamstring. You aren't going to run the mile ri-"

"Now that you guys are well stretched. Start the mile in three, two, one!" The gym teacher gave the green light and watched as kids ran. You pulled Eve along with you, and she just looked at you like you were crazy.

"You're going to injure the leg even more!" She yelled as she ran next to you.

"I'll be fine! It won't even hurt!"

Biggest lie of your life. For the first hour after the mile, it didn't hurt. After, was pain. Sitting down made it worse due to the pressure being put on the injury, and you looked like a penguin trying to walk during passing period. Walking with a limp for two days wasn't what you expected. You told your mom the day of the injury and was planning on taking you to the doctor, but you declined. Why would you go if you knew it was going to get better?... sure.

Days, weeks, and months passed, and you haven't told Alex and his friends. They did notice your lack of flexibility on your right leg but didn't question it. You told them it was just because you didn't bother stretching it, and they left it at that. Whatever happened to your leg, it heeled now, but there the effects of the injury were still present today.

All because of Alex.
