Painting Mistakes

"You can dance! You can jive!" You sang quite loudly, almost covering up the song coming from your boombox. Currently, you were picking some makeup items from your cabinet and brought them back to your vanity. It was a peaceful moment. With Halloween coming up in a couple of days, you wanted to practice how to do this specific skull makeup. You set the makeup remover on the desk and pulled your chair closer to you as you sang, "Having the time of your life!"

"See that girl-"

"ALEX?!" You jumped like a scared cat turned around in a snap to see him standing by your door. You quickly paused the music and gave him an embarrassed smile, "Well, hello... uhh, what are you doing here?"

"Just wanted to see you," he went away from the door frame and stepped into your room and took his time messing with your things.

"Don't touch that," you said as you watched him touch the necklaces that were hanging on a display holder.

"Sorry," he mumbled and jumped on your bed and took a pillow for himself, "You have so much jewlery, yet you don't wear any."

"It's cause it's for formal events," you stated matter-of-factly and took your seat at your vanity. "Who let you in?"

"Your mom," he scooted closer to the edge of your bed to see what you were doing, "She's the best."

You gave a small hum in agreement and opened up one of your two makeup pallets. You opened the bigger one first and hesitated on which color to start with. It also made you self-conscious because Alex was here staring at you.

"What are you doing?" He asked as he squinted his eyes to get a better look at the colors you were working with. "Is this for Halloween?"

"It is. I want to paint my face like a skull."

"Mm," he gave a hum in acknowledgment.

"Don't look at me," You gave him a small glare and took a cotton ball, and pressed it into a circle of hot pink.

"Why? Scared you'll mess up?" He leaned on one of his elbows and gave you a teasing grin.

"Yeah, buzz off."

"No can do," he jumped out of the bed and took a seat next to you as you made sure the cotton ball got enough product. "Just one mistake, and I'll laugh at you," he whispered.

You gulped and patted the pink ball on the side of your nose bridge closest to the inner eye. It only took a couple of pats since the eyeshadow was really pigmented, and you set the cotton down and stared into the mirror. The pink extended from the bottom of the brow, touching the side of the nose bridge, and going a little past your eye bag.

"Nice start," Alex commented, "Are you going to do the other eye too or one at a time?"

“One at a time,” you answered as you picked up a brand new cotton ball and aggressively patted the soft ball into a circle of orange eyeshadow. You patted this color over the center of your eye, once again reaching beneath your eyebrow and down to your eye bag.

The silence of him just staring at you and your focus on your makeup was very loud, so you settled to just continue listening to music at a low volume, allowing him to listen along. You picked up another new cotton ball, this last one being used for a nice yellow. The yellow wasn’t as pigmented as the others, but it still came out nice. This color was applied onto the very end of your eyes, reaching the tail of your eyebrow. Using a soft brush, you blended the colors out more smoothly to create an ombre effect.
