After a couple of hours of having fun and spending time with her family, she went to pick Violet up. Nat opened the door, her eyes seemed wet as if she'd been crying.
"Are you alright, Nat? Did something happen?"
"Nah, everything is fine. It's just my allergies"
Fine was such an empty word, it reflected negative emotions and sadness for Pip. But it might be different for Nat. She hoped it would be different for Nat. She didn't want her to feel sad.
"Thank you for letting me in, Nat. It means a lot to me." Violet said and Pip noticed her eyes were wet as well.
"Where's Becca?" she asked
"I'm here," Becca said and came outside. Her eyes seemed red and wet too.
"Okay, what is going on here? Why are all your eyes wet?"
"I'm sorry, Pip. I talked to them about my investigation and they probably got moved because of my mom," she said and she seemed convincing. She did. Pip wanted to believe her and so did she.
Violet had been an expert at lying. From lying about minor stuff such as her age to lying about important stuff such as this. She had that innocent face, her eyes reflected pureness and innocence. No one would ever suspect her for anything. Not even a detective. Pip had no idea what she was hiding from her.
"I think we should go. It's getting late"
In the car, Violet was silent. Pip thought of chatting with her .
"Have you heard of ARG?"
Violet rocked. She was probably thinking of something and I interrupted her, Pip assumed
"Of who?"
"ARG. Anonymous Raped Girl"
"No, why?."
"Well, she recently posted something on her blog about Max Hastings. She is one of his victims."
"Did you hear he got a pardon from the state and now is free because his parents donated a house or something?"
Pip hit the brakes sharply and the car immediately stopped.
"What?"
"Sadly, yes. I'm so sorry. I know how you're feeling about it."
"You don't. You don't have the slightest idea about how I'm feeling."
Violet didn't say anything. Pip got out of the car and ran into the forest. She didn't know what she was running from. She had finally started to heal her wounds but everything was happening all over again. But she did not want to go back.
Violet followed her and found her next to a tree, sobbing. She slowly tried to approach her and hug her. Pip pushed her away multiple times but Violet didn't give up. After a bit, Pip accepted her hug and held to it. Violet didn't know that, but she kept her from falling apart again.
"I'm so sorry" Violet wanted to say, but she knew she would make her feel worse. Instead, she said "It's okay, Pip. I'm here. You are not alone."
"I'm sorry," Pip said. "I should've been stronger than that"
"No. It's normal to be overwhelmed. Letting it all out helps. Besides, we're family. We hold on to each other."
"She's right." A familiar voice said.
"Ravi? What are you doing here?"
"I'm performing my boyfriend duties. "
"How did you know I was here?"
"Don't you remember we are sharing our locations? I saw a red dot moving into the forest and I got scared. I didn't want you to, you know..."
He didn't say anything else. He just ran and hugged Pip. They both fell to the ground, but neither of them cared about it.
"Ravi?"
"Yes?"
"Can we stay here a little bit? Just you and me."
Violet stayed in the back of the tree so she wouldn't interrupt them. She looked at the trees and how pretty they were. She was glad Ravi went there as soon as he got her text. She knew she could always count on him to keep Pip happy. However, she also knew she couldn't tell Pip her secret. Nobody could know her secret. Well, nobody except Cara. But now that Pip was back, she had to distance herself from Cara. It would be wrong to not do so. She was alone, again.
