"Do you realise that I can't do anything about it? What am I supposed to do? Find a random man to take my daughter to the event?"

"That is not our problem, Miss Fitz. Your daughter's friends are all going to the dance and she wants to go too. She's a child." the teacher replied

Those words made her burst out.

"I don't know if you noticed but so am I! I am seventeen years old, raising a child on my own!"

"I'm afraid that was your own choice. I don't know how or why you had her at such a young age and I honestly don't care, but that's what it is now."

How could a teacher be so cruel about a child's feelings? Aren't they supposed to love children?

"Little do you know about my choices. I'll find a way for her to come. It was nice seeing you, I guess." Violet said and left the principal's office. Lilly's TA signalled her and went to her.

"Hey, I just wanted you to know that Lilly can still go to the dance. Don't mind the principal, that's on me. She's a perfectionist but in a bad way. I'm sorry if she offended you, being a teen mom must be hard."

"Don't worry about it. The hardest part of it is people judging you. And I'm sure we are going to find a solution so everyone is happy."

"By the way, are you related to Pip Fitz-Amobi?"

"Yes, she's my cousin."

"Wow, I'm a huge huge fan of her podcast, I'm obsessed to say the least. It's insane because we also share a birthday!"

"That's incredible! I'll tell her." she said and laughed.

She regretted her previous thoughts about teachers. They do love children after all. It's just some of them that are weird.

Lilly saw her mom and ran towards her. "Mommy!"

"Hey, honey, how was your day?"

"Amazing! See you tomorrow, miss!" Lilly said.

Violet and Lilly walked home, where Pip and Ravi were already waiting for them.

"I am going to change, I'll be back," Violet said and went to her room.

When she closed her door, she burst into tears. She felt like she had failed her daughter by not giving her the chance to go to that dance. And the cherry on top, Max Hastings was free. "Innocent".
