It was in the middle of the night, Karishma was lying on the sofa near Haseena’s bed, squeezing her eyes tightly, deep in the clutches of a haunting nightmare of Haseena’s accident. “Maddam sir…” She was mumbling, her face twisted in fear. Before she could save her Maddam sir in her dream, it reached its peak and she jolted away with a gasp, heart pounding, sweat soaked and disoriented, trying to make sense of her surroundings.
Her gaze fell on Haseena, who was sleeping, safe. A relief washed over her face as she sighed, got up and walked towards her bed. Haseena’s back was facing her. She settled herself in the small space near Haseena and nestled closely to her. “Hum aapko kho nahi sakte hain Maddam sir…” She whispered as she pulled her closer and placed a tender kiss on her ear.
In the morning, Haseena woke up with a smile on her face after so many days, only to find herself entrapped in someone’s hold. As she slowly turned, Karishma was sleeping carefree, like a baby. Her smile grew large as she kept gazing at her. To make sure all this was really happening, she pulled Karishma’s cheeks softly but the latter didn’t budge. “You have no idea, Karishma Singh, hum kabse is scene ka intezaar kar rahe thy… Subah subah aap itni khubsoorat lagti hain, ki humare alfaaz kam pad jaate hain,” She says.
Minutes later, she heard the sound of her family talking from a distance. The voices were coming near.
She tried to wake Karishma. “Karishma Singh, uthh jaaiye” Tapping her cheeks, she said.
“Good morning,” Karishma kissed her cheek as she whispered. Everyone entered at the same time.
“Am…Ammi” Haseena mumbled, shocked. She was confused as to whether to be happy about the
recent happening or to be flushed.
“Nahi kar lo kar lo, hum sab aankh band kar lenge” Ammi said in a teasing tone.
She started shaking Karishma. “Uth Jaiye, uthh jaiye!!”
“Ama haan..” Karishma chided, as she rubbed open her eyes but the presence of people other than
Haseena left her bewildered, too. Immediately, she left Haseena and got up.
“Arrey Karishma, uth gayin kya?” Haseena’s aunt asked to which she smiled sheepishly as she picked
up her phone to check the time.
“Humein jaana hoga, Bahot der ho gayi hai” She said to them and called Santosh the next moment.
“Khayal rakhiye ga…” Caressing Haseena’s head, she said and waltzed out of the room while talking to
Santosh.
“Ise kya hua?” Ammi asked Haseena.
“Kaam zyada hai thaane mein ammi, hum bhi nahi hain na” She told them.
“Yeh toh tumhe accident karane se pehle sochna chaaiye tha na! Bechaari Karishma ko sab akele
dekhna pad raha hai…” Her aunt taunted, as they settled in the room.
“Arrey, chachi jaan, silver lining hai na accident ki bhi” Haseena said, shyly.
“Haan, haan, Karishma ne apne dil ki baat jo keh di” Ammi interfered.
“Uske liye accident ki koi zaroorat nahi thi, wo toh Karishma vaise bhi tumhe propose karne hi waali thi”
Shaba said to her. “By the way, subah ka scene dekh kar samajh mein aa raha hai raat mein kya kya
hua hoga” She smirked, teasing her.
“Bhabhi hospital hai yeh!” Haseena said, as her face turned red with her words.
“Haan na Haseena, hospital hai yeh” Bhabhi repeated her words even more playfully. Her face was
flushed and she didn’t answer.

“Kya scene hai Santu?” Karishma asked as she entered the station. Cheetah was already asleep while Santosh was yawning hard, vulnerable to sleep any time.
