You wake up from your nap, groggy and confused. This has not been the quick 20 minute little rest you planned to have. The twin suns cast their last rays of golden light over the dunes , and you realize you have been sleeping for at least an hour. The chilly wind blows in through the broken window of the abandoned house, and you pull your blanket closer around you to shield your sleep warm body. You are missing something very essential, and you are determined to fill the creeping void. You push off the creaking bed, still wrapped tightly in your blanket, and head out of the dusty bedroom. Your feet make a shuffling sound as they glide over the floor, your limbs too heavy to lift them off the floorboards. In the living room, you see the familiar sight of Vash sitting on the couch, wrapped in his own blanket just as tightly as you are. He has his little radio quietly playing the news, and he lifts his gaze to meet yours, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. You don't exchange any words; he knows exactly what you're thinking. Your grumpy expression tells him all he needs to know as you shuffle closer.
His arms spread out with the blanket, inviting you into a warm and comforting embrace. You gladly accept and settle into his lap as he wraps you in a tight hug, his blanket now around both of you. He plants a gentle kiss on your temple as he reaches for his mug that's been steaming on the table. Vash hands you the cup carefully, making sure not to spill any of the hot liquid from the half empty ceramic. He watches as your fingers lace around it and smiles gently as you sip the tea from it.
A sigh escapes over your lips, and the stern look on your face softens. You melt into his embrace as he nuzzles the top of your head. The groggy feeling leaves your head and bones as you find what you were looking for—warmth not only from the cup but also from his very being.
