Charlotte Addam's POV:
The train ride took days and neither me nor Lucas got any sleep. Too scared that another tribute may kill us in the middle of the night or that they will be another rat attack like with the Boy from 8 on the first night. After so long, I manage to guess we were on the train four days minimum but the entire time, I stayed huddled in the corner of the carriage with Lucas or talking to the girl from 11, Evelyn, she's only 12 and yet somehow her name got pulled.
I suppose we should be used to it as it is the 12th Annual Hunger Games. The oldest of the tributes were barely six when the war ended and yet we are still getting punished for the rebels and our Districts uprising against the Capitol.
My only comfort is that we are allowed mentors after the past 2 years. However there still haven't been enough victors so we are left to be mentored by 24 students.
Finally, I look up and the doors of the carriage are being opened to get off. Lucas holds my hand as we are lead off roughly. He jumps off the train as the jump to the ground is multiple feet before helping me down by my waist.
I take a few steps away as more people get off. Luckily, Lucas helped with my hair so I just sort my long baby pink dress and adjust the pink rose embroidered corset. I always dress nicely for the Reaping so it's quite unfortunate I'm gonna have to fight to the deaths in one of my favourite dresses that my sister, Abigail, designed for me.
We begin to follow the others when I see a tall man in a big red coat and suit. He walks over to me and extends a rose, "you must be Charlotte, right? I'm your mentor, Coriolanus Snow". I slowly hold the rose, it's a light pink just like the ones on my dress.
"Thank you, mister" I smile up at his tall frame. I see him chuckle slightly at my words as I touch the rose softly, "My job is to keep you safe, help you in that arena and beforehand. Do you have any questions?"
I stay silent as I recognise him from a previous interview for the Games. "Were you a mentor before, mister?" I ask, smiling softly. Coriolanus slowly nods, "I was a mentor for the 10th hunger games however I've been brought back now that I'm an intern under Dr Gaul."
"Well you must be awfully smart, mister" I giggle, my southern accent becoming stronger. "I seem intelligent to you?" He asks, amused. "Awfully so, a genius even" I smile, confused by his amusement at my words.
Just then a peacekeeper is back and pulling me away with Lucas as I blow Coriolanus a quick kiss before turning to catch up, still holding the pretty baby pink rose that reminds me of my home all too well.
Coriolanus Snow's POV:
She must be crazy. How can a girl be so carefree when she may possibly die in days time? Her stupid giggles, her stupid dress, her stupidly perfect lips. The more I think of her with a smirk, the more I am convinced to follow her.I run to my new car, a 19th birthday present from Mr and Mrs Plinth, and start to follow the truck they are in so I may have the chance to talk to the girl once more and maybe knock some sense into her before her interview in front of all of Panem tomorrow night.
At last the truck reaches the zoo and goes out back so I quickly park and rush to make sure she is safe and hasn't giggled so much another tribute strangled her.
