The next morning Y/n woke up early enough to get both her and Kaya ready. Kaya had daycare and Y/n wasn't entirely ready for her to meet Doppo. She had complex opinions about Doppo and she wanted to make sure that things were carefully planned out before the two would meet. It had been a while since Y/n had even interacted with Doppo and she didn't know how much he changed or even what he did for work. It was all too risky and both Y/n and Doppo being gifted made it all the worse. Kaya's safety was Y/n's priority and it came before anything else. Y/n went into her closet and pulled out a grey blazer, it was a little big, but it paired well with the off-white button down and the black skirt she was wearing. Y/n also added a gold chain that she had found in her jewelry box.

Once Y/n was done getting ready, she woke up Kaya. "Wake up Kaya, you have to go to school," Y/n quietly entered her room and woke the girl up. Kaya slowly opened her eyes and looked at her mother. "Wow mommy! You look amazing," she complimented Y/n. The older woman's cheeks turned slightly red. Even though it was her own daughter, Y/n was flattered. It was rare that someone would compliment her now. "Thank you sunshine, you gotta get ready now," Y/n got up and went to make her coffee. Her heart was beating a little faster now because it was all sinking in. Things were starting to fall into place: Y/n was meeting with Doppo and if all went well, Kaya would be able to meet her father and they'd be a complete family.

"I'm ready mommy," Kaya said to Y/n. "Alright, we're off then," the two of them left Y/n's apartment and got into her car. Y/n drove the familiar roads to Kaya's daycare and Kaya enjoyed the car ride. When they arrived, Y/n took Kaya out of her car seat and they walked into the building. "Ms L/n, it's nice to see you...and you too Kaya," the teacher smiled at Y/n. "Same to you, I'll be heading out know," Y/n said to the teacher. "Alright, I'm off for the day, have a good day Kaya. I'll see you later," Y/n gave her daughter a hug before heading off. Y/n put the address into her GPS. The Armed Detective Agency...what did you get yourself into? Y/n thought to herself as she drove. When Y/n arrived, she thought that the place looked nice. It was a small office building with a cafe at the bottom of it. Y/n took the elevator and knock on the door of the Armed Detective Agency when she reached the second floor. After a few moments a boy with grey hair opened the door for Y/n.

"Hi, did you need something?" he let Y/n into the office. "Is Doppo Kunikida here?" Y/n asked softly, observing her surroundings. The entire office went silent when Y/n said Doppo's name. "Kunikida, she's here~~" a brown haired man with bandages said with a singsong voice. Doppo got up from his desk and quickly approached Y/n. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came to mind yet. "It's been a while hasn't it?" Y/n said. "Yeah...it has, why don't you have a seat?" Doppo was having a hard time keeping eye contact with Y/n. A lot had changed in three years, for starters, Y/n's hair was no longer blue but instead brunette and the way she carried herself was way different from her younger self.

"You look good," Y/n spoke up as she sat down on the couch. "Thank you, you look..." Kunikida, couldn't find the right words to say to Y/n. Calling her beautiful was not the right word even if it was true, he couldn't seem too eager to see Y/n again. If he responded with, "you look good too" it would seem like he didn't care as much, but in reality he cared a little too much about Y/n. He was still crazy for her, but couldn't tell her. "Pleasant...you look pleasant," Kunikida finally finished his sentence. "I'm flattered," Y/n said bluntly. She doesn't sound so flattered,  Atsushi thought to himself.

"Y/n I'm so sorry I honestly didn't kn-" "I didn't know until about a month later, don't apologize," Y/n cut Kunikida off. "Were you okay raising her?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowed with concerned looks on his face. "I mean..I'm here am I not? She's also here and I've been raising her fine," Y/n explained. "What's her name?" Kunikida asked. "Kaya" was Y/n's one word response. "What is she like?" Kunikida kept on pushing and Y/n almost had a smile creeping onto her face. "Well to me she's my everything, a great kid and very curious, she actually asked about you the other day," Y/n explained. "What are your thoughts on me meeting her soon?" Kunikida asked.

Y/n's face went stone cold. "I don't think I'm fully comfortable with that," Y/n didn't hold back. "I understand, but I think Kaya deserves to meet me, not to mention she also has my name," Kunikida explained. Y/n stared at the coffee table, feeling her heart race and her blood boiling. "I won't be convinced that easily, it's way too dangerous," Y/n got more stern. "Kaya will be safe, can promise you that," Kunikida said. "Can you really?" asked. "What do you mean?" Kunikida would soon regret asking that question. "I mean that this entire situation is dangerous Kunikida! For God's sake you work for the Armed Detective Agency, you face the Mafia frequently, don't think that I didn't see that on the news! Kaya doesn't need to be tangled in all of that shit!" Y/n looked Kunikida in the eyes.

The way she said his name was like an insult. Her words felt like spears going straight through Kunikida's body and he physically felt as if he was in pain. Y/n's eyes were glowing purple at this point and that's how Kunikida knew there was trouble. "Y/n calm down, maybe we can reconsider at a later time," he suggested. "Try as hard as you want, but you won't be able to convince me, Kaya is my girl," Y/n's eyes were still that purple hue when she got up and left. All she wanted was to see her daughter, and picked her up as soon as she could.

As Y/n left, Kunikida had realized that the blazer and chain were his. At first it wasn't obvious because he was so nervous to see her again, but it couldn't be mistaken: the blazer was big on her and the chain hung lower than most feminine jewelry that Y/n wore. Seeing his clothes on Y/n made him realize that there was a small chance that they could make up, but then again, she may have forgotten that she was wearing Kunikida's belongings. Unbeknownst to her, she wasn't the only one. The red tie worn around his neck wasn't always a tie. Initially, it was a ribbon that Y/n used to tie her hair. The both of them had something that wasn't theirs, but Kaya was someone who belonged to both of them, whether Y/n liked it or not.

Y/n held Kaya close to her when she picked her up because she didn't want anyone taking away her daughter. Her pride and joy, her reason to work hard, her motivation and her sunshine girl.
