As time went by both Y/n and Kaya grew. The little girl was now three years old and stuck by her mother all the time. Y/n did her best to give her girl the entire world and she was lucky to get the day off and planned to spend it with Kaya until the sun set. She got up and brushed her teeth before going into Kaya's room and gently waking her up. "Kaya, it's nine time to get up sunshine," she shook her daughter softly. Kaya slowly opened her eyes and smiled when she saw her mother waking her up. "Good morning mommy!" Kaya jumped out of bed and gave her mom a big hug. "Good morning sunshine," Y/n hugged her back and smiled brightly. "What are we doing today?" Kaya asked eagerly. "Well...I'm still figuring it out, I want you to go brush you teeth and I'll have breakfast ready," Y/n explained. "Okay," Kaya got out of bed and went to the bathroom.
Y/n headed to the kitchen and turned on the stove, she pulled some eggs, milk and flour from the fridge and started cooking something up. "What are you making mommy?" Kaya finished brushing her teeth. "You'll see...it's a surprise," Y/n always wanted to keep Kaya on her toes and look forward to things. "How has school been?" Y/n asked, flipping the pancakes. "We have to do a family tree...but I'm a little stuck," Kaya looked upset. "How so?" Y/n's eyebrows furrowed. "I have a mommy, but I don't have a daddy and all the other kids do," Kaya said with a saddened expression. Y/n's heart broke for the little girl, but she wasn't ready to explain her situation to Kaya. "Kaya...listen to me, our family may be different, but it doesn't mean anything. I mean look at us, we have each other and look at everything we've done together," Y/n tried looking on the bright side.
"Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a dad," Kaya admitted. Y/n frowned as she dished out the pancakes and cut them into smaller sizes. "Do I even have a dad?" she asked Y/n. Y/n hesitated for a second before answering. "...you do...he's just very busy because of work, but he loves you so so much," she lied to Kaya. It broke Y/n to be lying to both Doppo and Kaya, but it wasn't easy to explain what happened to both of them. She was sure that Doppo would accept Kaya with open arms, but Y/n hadn't been in contact with him for four years and it was honestly a miracle that they didn't run into him in Yokohama, but to be fair, the city was huge so the chances were slim. Y/n knew that she would eventually have to tell Doppo, but she wasn't sure when she would because the world was a dangerous place and she didn't want anything happening to Kaya.
"There's a zoo I wanna take you to, so hurry up and eat," Y/n said to Kaya, changing the subject. "Yay, I wanna see the tigers!" Kaya almost jumped out of her seat. "We'll see if the tigers wanna see you too," Y/n laughed. Once Y/n and Kaya were finished eating, Y/n picked out a matcha green crochet cardigan with a with tank top and some mom jeans for her to wear and a little green dress with some white leggings under them for Kaya. Y/n grabbed her tote bag and held onto Kaya's hand. "To the zoo we go!" Y/n strapped Kaya in her car seat and started driving to the zoo. Y/n drove for about twenty minutes and glanced at Kaya a couple of times in the rearview mirror. The three year old was looking out the window, taking in everything she saw on the road.
Y/n found parking and got ready for her day with Kaya. They paid for admission; 800 yen for Y/n and Kaya was free because she was under five. Y/n took a map and Kaya led the way. "Mommy look at the parrots!" Kaya pointed. "Yes, did you know that they can talk?" Y/n said to Kaya. "They can?" Kaya asked. "They can?" a red parrot repeated what Kaya said. "Wow!" Kaya's eyes lit up. It was those little moments that warmed Y/n's heart. She did this, Y/n was the one who showed Kaya the world and taught her everything. "That's Cherry, he's from South America," a zookeeper explained to Kaya. "That's so cool, did he fly all the way here?" Kaya asked. "No Cherry was found in the wild and brought over here," the zookeeper explained. "Yeah it's true!" Cherry said to Kaya. "Okay mommy, I wanna see the tigers now!" Kaya pointed to a sign with an orange tiger on it.
"All right! We're going," Y/n was getting dragged by Kaya. The tigers were huge, but Kaya wasn't scared because there was glass between her and the tiger. The tiger put its paw on the glass and Y/n put her hand there as well. "Mommy look!" Kaya said to Y/n. "Mommy? I thought that woman was that girl's babysitter," a bystander said. "I wonder where the father is," another said. "Kaya, I think it's time to go get lunch," Y/n held onto her daughter's hand and left the zoo. People like that really got on Y/n's nerves, she could care less what they said about her, but saying things in front of Kaya was disrespectful. Y/n and Kaya shared a miso soup at a restaurant and then Y/n got a phone call.
"Hello?" Y/n picked up. "Is this Y/n L/n?" a familiar voice asked. "It is, is it okay if I call you back later? I'm a little busy right now," Y/n asked politely. "Of course, that's fine," the person hung up. "Who was that?" Kaya asked. "I don't know, maybe it's something for work," Y/n brushed it off. It was getting late by the time Y/n and Kaya got home, so Y/n made a quick dinner and then got Kaya ready for bed. "Good night Kaya," Y/n kissed her on the cheek turned off the light. Y/n went out to her living room and sat on the couch to return the call. The person picked up within seconds.
"Y/n..." she finally remembered the voice. "Doppo!" Y/n almost woke up Kaya. "I need you to be honest with me Y/n...do I have a daughter?" Doppo's voice was serious. "You do...I found out I was pregnant after we broke up and I didn't want to get in the way of your work," Y/n explained, ashamed of herself. "We have a lot to talk about, don't we?" Doppo asked. "We do" Y/n agreed with him. "Can we talk tomorrow?" Doppo asked. "I think that'll work," Y/n said. "Will I be meeting my daughter tomorrow?" Doppo asked. "No, I'll let you know when you can," Y/n said sternly. "Alright, I'll be patient," Doppo said. "I appreciate it, good night Doppo," Y/n was ready to hang up. "Good night Y/n, it was nice hearing your voice again," he hung up the phone.
