Harry woke up the next day and instantly plastered on a wide smile. He knew he had to, unless he wanted Draco to think the blonde was upsetting him somehow, which was always a possibility. Thankfully, though, Draco was still asleep. Harry sighed in relief, then shifted the blonde off of his body, careful to get out of bed without waking the veela up. As soon as the brunette stepped out into the hall and closed the bedroom door behind him, though, Emmyl appeared, looking furious.
"You can't leave Draco all alone," the elf chastised quietly, aware that the brunette was only doing this because he didn't want to wake the blonde, "The healer said he might think you abandoned him!"
"The healer also said he can't know that I'm sad about his illness, which he will if you and I read veela books around him-" Harry started whispered, but trailed off when he saw the look of sadness on Emmyl's face, "What's wrong?"
The elf's bottom lip quivered a bit as he looked at the floor.
"I'll tell you, but please, go back inside. Veelas are very nurturing. If he finds out you woke up before him, he might hurt himself because he wasn't there to greet you or something," the elf said. Though the thought sounded ridiculous to Harry, the brunette knew that Draco was unstable; anything could set him off, and the brunette needed to keep an open mind.
"I'll wake him up, then. He can't get mad at himself if I'm asking him to do things for me, can he?" Harry asked Emmyl, but the elf shrugged helplessly in response. The brunette suddenly felt like crying. He had woken up a bit confident in his abilities, thinking that he'd somehow find a cure within hours. All that confidence was fading as the reality of the situation sank in: they literally knew nothing about Draco's condition, yet the blonde was under their care.
Harry's first instinct was to put him to sleep until they found a cure, but he quickly decided against it. Draco was already on a lot of potions; there was no telling what could happen to him if they put him on more. Besides, making the blonde sleep would make the situation more convenient for Harry, who was more worried about Draco hurting himself than them finding a cure. A cure would do nothing if the blonde throws himself off a roof while they aren't paying attention. The brunette felt like it was selfish of him to manipulate Draco into taking a sleeping potion just so he wouldn't have to deal with the blonde's veela side. It felt wrong. So, Harry opted to suicide proof the entire house, instead, and Emmyl cast charms on Draco that would make him unable to hurt himself in any way. It was the best they could do for now, but the brunette still had the potions ready, just in case.
Taking a deep breath, the brunette entered their bedroom, and shook the veela, whose eyes snapped open as soon as Harry touched him. Draco instantly sat up, smiled at Harry, and bid him good morning.
"Good morning to you, too, love," Harry said gently, smiling back, "I was wondering if you could make me a treacle tart. I loved it the last time, and have been craving it ever since."
Draco's eyes lit up at the praise. He nodded immediately, already getting out of bed and hurrying towards the door
"And don't forget to take the potions for your headaches!" Harry called out, getting a "I will! Don't worry, Harry!" back from the blonde who had already disappeared down the hall.
"Backaches," Emmly said firmly, entering the room, then explained when Harry furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "We told him the numbing potions were for his back, not migraines. You just told him to take them for his headaches."
Harry sighed. This was why he hated lying.
"Good thing he didn't notice, then," he said, "Now, can you tell me what's wrong?"
