~Episode Five:Bin Chicken~
Rather than getting the bus as usual, Joey had gotten a lift to school from her mum that morning. Joey was sure after their chat on Saturday night that she was worried about her even though she felt much better after a day in bed. She waved goodbye to her mum when she got out of the car and made her way into the quad in search of her friends.
After she'd left on Saturday, Malakai had been assaulted by a cop that he'd sworn at. When she found her friends sitting on the steps outside of the sports hall, a frown spread on her face as a video came up on her Instagram feed that she'd been idly scrolling on while she searched.
"Hey, Ams, have you seen this?" She asked as she approached the trio and sat down beside Darren on the step. She turned her phone to show Amerie the gif someone had made of Malakai's assault which had seemingly gone viral judging by the view count. Amerie sighed and nodded.
"It started circulating over the weekend," said Quinni.
"Who made it?"
"We don't know," said Quinni.
"Probably some arsehole who has no idea how serious this sort of thing is," said Joey.
"Do you think he's seen it?" Amerie asked them and they shrugged.
Joey noticed that Darren kept looking around for someone and Quinni seemingly noticed too because she said, "He's already in the hall."
Darren fake laughed while Quinni sort of scolded Amerie for being mean.
"Sorry," the girl mumbled, "I just have feelings about Darren dating the most probbo person in our school."
"Bit harsh," Joey muttered.
"Oh, okay, he's not probbo," Darren defended, "I mean sure he deals drugs, but who doesn't?"
They had an assembly first thing that morning so everyone piled into the sports hall and sat down in the rows of chairs that had been set out in preparation.
"Good morning everybody," Woodsy greeted as she took to the podium once everyone was settled, "so, I have an announcement. It's really very thrilling. Hartley High has been selected to kick off the city of Sydney Interschool Basketball Semifinals." There was a small applause but most people in the room seemed to be half-asleep still."Which will garner some much-needed positive attention after the map debacle."
