There are two separate occasions that happen before. The Teen Titans meet with a girl named Terra, who lost at the desert and living on her own. While Terra thought Beast Boy lied to him about not saying she can't control her power, it was Robin who figure it out himself, which causing Terra to leave and feels betrayed even though it means nothing. For the other two, Storm and Lantern meet with Tendo and Tech-Tiger, Japanese heroes who went to US to dealt with the same problem. While things seems off at first, Storm and Tendo are childhood friends, making things easy with them, and the two overseas heroes get recruited as honorary members.
(Night) (Jump City)
When another trouble happening in the city, the team quickly head there. They went to the DVD shop, and met with another one of their enemy.

He is the self-proclaimed arch-nemesis of the Teen Titans. While he might be a geek and annoying, this guy is a genuine threat when he hold his super remote control that can manipulate reality in the form of digital substance. Just as his monster television about to attack the clerk, it get blasted by a laser beam. He turn to the side and sees the Teen Titans.
Control Freak: Well, well, well.
He hopping onto each DVD shelf and face the Titans.
Control Freak: If isn't it my old arch-nemesis, the Teen Titans. Looks like you guys got some new recruit.
Beast Boy: Um... Yeah. *whisper* Who is this guy?
Cyborg/Storm: *shrug* ...
Control Freak press the button at his remote at the multiple television and make an introduction of himself.
TV: "I am the master of monsters... I am your darkest nightmare come to life... I am Control Freak!"
The copies at the television applause for the introduction. Though Raven and Lantern doesn't seem impressed.
Raven: A couch potato with a sundeck remote. I'm petrified.
Lantern: Yes, same with me.
Control Freak: You will be... You will be...! Hah!
He aim his remote near Raven and Lantern, pressing the button and turn one of the shelf into a monster. They back away in surprise.

But for some reason, Raven somewhat "afraid." Cyborg lunge to the shelf monster and ram it.
