My eyes slowly fluttered open as the last few seconds of my dream slip away, forever lost from my memory. As I adjusted to the light, I realized that the woods outside the bus seemed to get larger and thicker the further we drove. I don't push off of the window, letting my head rest and my body lean against the body of the bus. I see Sho's reflection in the window, his focus trained on a book he brought along. Noisy chatter filled the bus, mainly from Mina-kun, Yaoyorozu-san, and Ochako-kun. They're talking about their past camp experiences, reminiscing the previous summer.
Shoto snuck a quick glance at me, slightly surprised to find me awake. "Oh, Y/n," I turn my head softly towards him. He doesn't smile but his eyes soften. "How long have you been awake?" he asks gently as he flipped the page of his book. He volunteered to sit on the outside, knowing I'd fall asleep sometime during the ride.
I smile softly, redirecting my gaze from him to out the window. "Not long," I answer, my voice still a bit quiet from not using it for a bit. "I woke up barely a minute ago," I then look down at my watch, noticing that it's been about an hour and a half since we departed at 10 o'clock. "Do you know how much longer we have until we arrive?" I ask, looking in his direction again.
"We still have about half an hour, or at least I think we do," he responds, his eyes not leaving his book. "If you want to go back to sleep, I'll wake you up when we get there." He flips his page once more, continuing to read.
"It's fine, I'll-" I get interrupted by a large rock underneath the tire of our bus. It shakes the entire vehicle and my head bangs against my window. "Ow..." I mumble under my breath. I look out to see what we drove over and it seems to be a rock the size of a small tortoise. I curse the driver in my head, knowing they ran over it on purpose. It's not hard to slowly swerve to avoid hitting a rock like that.
Luckily, Sho's estimate was off. The bus stopped at what seemed to be a large clearing, the gravel road gone and replaced with packed dirt. Our class quickly and eagerly ditched the bus, stretching and taking their luggage out into the grassy area nearby. I scanned the area which almost seemed to be in the middle of the woods, noticing an entrance to a trail. It was marked by a wooden arch, the carvings on it intricate and featuring birds and beasts alike. Something in me told me that this wasn't going to go the way any of us would expect so I stayed close to Shoto. If things go south, at least I'll have him.
As soon as Aizawa Sensei stepped out of the bus, its doors shut and whoever was driving it hit the gas and made a sharp turn. I guess they didn't want to stay here any longer than they had to. Sensei walked up near the front of the group, but before he could make it the entire way, three people seemed to jump out from the canopy of trees surrounding us. They were dressed in bright colours and had furry tails and something around their heads that poked up and resembled animal ears. I realize that they seem quite a bit like cats, but I didn't think they all have the same and/or related quirk. After all, they didn't look as if they were siblings.
"Hello, Class 2-A! We're-" started the one dressed in red. As she waved her hand in greeting, I noticed that gloved that resembled paws. The beans were a soft shade of pink and they even came with little claws made of metal.
"The Wild, Wild Pussycats!" said an excited Izuku. He pulled out his Campus notebook, one of many notebooks that contained information on pretty much every hero and student in the hero courses. "You're Mandalay, the leader. That's Pixie-Bob," he eagerly nodded towards the one in baby blue. "and that's Tiger!" He nodded towards the large, buff man who seemed to be the person you associated the 'Looks like could kill you, is a cinnamon bun' phrase. Even the costumes of the group made him look formidable.
Mandalay laughs along with Pixie-Bob, both amused and surprised. "Slow your roll," chuckles Pixie-Bob. "Are we supposed to be the experts on ourselves or you?" She spoke jokingly, leaning on her left leg as she places her hand on her hip.
