{Following Saanvi}

*ding dong*

Saanvi rang the doorbell as she stood on the porch of Mia's former house. The cut on her cheek still spilling blood on her rich brown skin.

*ding dong*

no answer

*ding dong* *ding dong* *ding dong*

Still no answer

"Mia?" She called through the crack of the door, wiping the blood off with her right hand. "It's me, Saanvi". She paused waiting for a sign that her friend was there, but once again nothing. "I came to check up on you. Are you there?". Still nothing.

That's when she remembered the house key in the little front pocket of her messenger bag. Rosa gave it to her a while ago because in the intense she needed to get away from her mother, She always had a place to run to.

She hurriedly pulled it out, inserted it into the door's lock and twisted it.

"Hello!" she called out into the open air as she still stood at the foot of the door before walking in. "Mia!. Are you here?"

The house remained silent. its creaking floorboards and faded wallpaper bearing witness to years of memories. But today, it held something different— an eerie silence.

It was empty. No sign of Mia, no sign of Mylo, no sign of anything. Just the echo of her footsteps as she wandered through the deserted hallways.

She walked into every room she could remember and checked every surface just to find another living soul. Just to know she wasn't alone.

She then stumbled into the living room, the modern furniture looming like silent sentinels. The fireplace stood cold and unused, its mantle adorned with old photographs. Saanvi traced her fingers over the edges, memories flooding back—a summer picnic, Mia's laughter, the warmth of friendship.

But where was she now? Saanvi's mind spun, the walls closing in. She had come here to comfort her friend, to get away from her mom but instead, she found abandonment. The weight of her loneliness pressed down on her, threatening to crush her fragile resolve.

The silence was suffocating. Her heart began to race, panic clawing at her chest. She had left her own home in a hurry, fleeing from the monsters that waited for her to return. But now, in this space she called safe, the monsters had followed her. They whispered in the shadows, taunting her with thoughts she tried to forget.

She left you.

Of Course, she did. It was going to happen anyway.

It's not her fault. Why would someone like her be friends with someone like you?

Your own mother can't love you, so how do you expect somebody else to?

You're alone again. That's what you deserve

"Shut up. Shut up!" she yelled at her brain, repeatedly hitting her head withe the palms of her hands to make the thoughts go away.

She sank onto the worn-out couch, tears blurring her vision. She had trusted Mia and believed in their bond. But now, she felt like a lost child, abandoned in a haunted house.

Saanvi's breaths came in ragged gasps.

She left because she was tired of dealing with all of your stupid issue.

You're nothing but a burden. A problem not worth fixing

Why would anybody want to be near anybody like that?

This is your fault.

Saanvi clutched her ears as if that would stop the noises in her head. "Leave me alone. Please just leave me alone" She whispered, pleading with the voice as if it wasn't her own.

She then grabbed her phone, desperate for a lifeline. She called Mia, but it went straight to voicemail. Saanvi left frantic messages, her voice cracking. "Mia...please come back. Come back. I need you." her calls sounding more like a desperate cry for help.

The minutes stretched into hours. Saanvi wandered from room to room, her footsteps echoing off the walls. She stepped into Mia's room. A place she's been in more times than she could count on both her hands and feet. It looked the same as it always did with its baby pink walls and floral window she helped her paint during Winter break, except she noticed a few things were missing, like the Nayeon and Mina (from Twice) posters that always hung up on her walls, and of course, Mia was missing too. Only the scent of her perfume lingered, mocking Saanvi's desperation.

And then it happened. Saanvi collapsed on the bedroom floor, her sobs echoing through the empty house. She felt the weight of every unspoken fear, every bad thought. She had come here seeking refuge, but instead, she found her own unraveling.

Saanvi wasn't just alone physically; she was alone in her pain. Mia and Rosa's absence mirrored the void within her—a void she had tried to fill with friendship, love, and distractions. But now, it consumed her.

They've shown you nothing but kindness, and you've done nothing in return

You can't even be there for Mia, but instead, you're here crying on their floor like you're the one who just lost their mother.

Tired of fighting, she let the voice win. Let it take over and warp her reality.

She curled into a ball, her tears soaking the hardwood floor. She wondered if Mia would ever return and if this house would ever feel like the comforting place it once  was again.

With the two remaining people that she considered family gone, Who else should she turn to, where could she go?
