Cade Arlington has never been much a family guy, although he has no reason to complain much. He comes from a regular family, two parents who are happily married and an older sister, Sophie, who has also graduated from Shoreline. His family is typical - normal almost - but that's always seemed to make him feel out of place here.
The recent demon attack on the academy has sent his parents into a worried mess of shambles so this weekend he decided to visit them. It's late at night and the four of them have just finished watching Suicide Squad. His parents, Sophie, and him all share the same dirty blonde hair. Where his hair is a messy flop of curls, his mother and sister have golden straight locks. But their dark blue eyes are consistent throughout.
After graduating at the college level, his parents decided to become warriors for Valencia, and ironically that ambition rubbed off on his older sister. Long story short, warriors are committed to aiding and fighting in any sort of war and are dedicated to warding off any threat that comes to the supernatural. They live deeper in this small country which requires portal travel. Their house is a regular sized two story house with 4 bedrooms, one bedroom always vacant where Cade's room is supposed to be.
"I'm so happy you came to visit!" His mom, Melody, exclaims as she nibbles on some left over popcorn. "It feels like ages since you've been home."
"Yeah yeah," Cade retorts playfully leading his hand to the bowl of popcorn as well. "Just wanted to let you all know that I'm fine and there's nothing to be frantic about."
His father, Jax, scoffs. He's always been much stricter and non appealing in his demeanor compared to his mother. "There was a demon attack."
"They were Scout demons," Cade defends. "One of the lower demons. I could have easily killed one, and same goes for all my classmates."
"Oh, I heard you got a new student," Sophie pipes into the conversation, although she's glued to her phone aimlessly scrolling through Tik Tok.
"Yeah we did. She's pretty cool and very nice," he keeps his answers short. He feels if he mentions that Bree's a reincarnation of Genevieve his family would go ballistic.
His parents stay silent for a moment exchanging glances between them. On the other hand his sister doesn't seem to have a care in the world. It's his father who speaks, "rumors have it that she wields fire like Genevieve did."
And now Cade's stomach drops. The moment before they start rambling in their hysteria. "Yeah, but it's really fine-"
"You know what this means?" His father cuts him off and his dark blue eyes grow into a stormy ocean. "We all must begin to prepare for a war."
"Oh my gosh, dad, there's not gonna be a war," Cade's voice grows in annoyance as he's now slid the bowl of popcorn to the side. "That's just some stupid prophecy."
Sophie laughs, still not taking her eyes off her phone. Her knees are buckled up to her chest and her long blonde hair falling over her face.
"Prophecies have history behind them," his mother speaks now and her face too has grown colder and more serious. "Arlington's have been one of the best warriors in all of history."
"Don't worry," Cade shoos his hand lazily. "I'm not going to disgrace our name."
"We're not worried about that, Cade," his dad nearly hisses. "We just want you to be safe."
