When we get to Charles room, the door is open. But the moment I walk through the threshold, I see him and Constance jump apart. They are both flushed.
"Are we interrupting something?" Athos asks from behind me.
Constance shakes her head "Not at all. I'm so glad you're back in one piece."
"Thanks." Me and Athos share a look.
"She let you go?" Charles asks, voice still a bit shaken.
"Yes."
"How? You know what she wants of you." He tries to insinuate in front of Athos.
"He knows Charles. I told him."
"Everything?"
Athos takes a seat at the desk chair. "The whole, wanting me dead thing? Yeah. I wish I could say it was a first, but I've never been one to make many friends."
Constance comes and stands by me, linking her arm through mine.
Charles looks thoroughly confused.
Constance rolls her eyes "It's baffling to me how you could live with your sister so long, yet know so little."
She taps her finger on my temple.
"She's got a plan. Right?"
"Of course I do."
"What do you need us to do?" Constance asks eagerly.
"Simple. Athos has to die."
She removes her arm from mine and backs up.
"Maybe I was wrong. You are just a mad woman."
I laugh and move over to where Athos sits, a hand on his shoulder.
"Not really. We just have to make it look like he did."
"Meaning I have to be shot, again." Athos says solemnly.
"And you are alright with that?" Charles asks.
Athos laughs crudely "I've been shot many a time, but they were always ones meant to kill me. Now I'm going to be shot to pretend that it killed me. Seems only right."
"Well than, I see no way this could go wrong." He says sarcastically.
"Charles, I did this to save us all. To protect you."
"I should be the one protecting you."
"And you are, by keeping this secrect. She knows you know, she might check in with you to see what I'm up to. Keeping this plan to yourself is what will protect all of us."
"Fine."
I hug him.
"We have to go but come see me tommorow at the Garrison."
He nods and I begin to walk towards the door.
"We'll leave you two to go back to the thing we definitely weren't interrupting earlier." I hear Athos say.
I snake him in the shoulder.
He laughs and follows me out. We agree that Athos will tell Aramis and Porthos of the plan when they are all alone. For the time, we check in on Mr Bonacieux and then leave to go back to the Garrison. A very confused Captain Treville eyes me as I walk back into the garrison.
"You're still here?"
"I have some business to tie up, I still plan to leave in a few days."
He looks skeptical but smiles "Glad to have you a while longer."
I share his smile and then head off to my room.
