Mahima's pov:
Or what, Mr. Bajwa ?" I pressed, a sliver of fear creeping into my voice.
"Or, in the worst-case scenario," Bajwa finished, his voice dripping with fear and uncertainty, "an indefinite suspension of the entire team. I mean you, Jagjeet sir, me , and Lal Singh."
"................"
"Ma'am, what'll happen now" his voice shivered
"We'll be successful, don't worry" I reassured
"Mr. Bajwa , be ready for a meeting in 30 minutes at my residence and also bring lalsingh with you"
I put the call down and called jagjeet
Jagjeet: "Hello Ma'am"
Mahima: "Mr.singh at my residence, in 30 minutes"
Jagjeet: "alright ma'am"
Mahima slammed the phone down. "An indefinite suspension," she muttered, the words hanging heavy in the air.
"We'll be successful, don't worry," she said into the receiver with no one on the other end, forcing a confidence she didn't entirely feel.
Author pov:
*30 minutes later at Mahima's house*
Her study transformed into a makeshift war room. "Alright, listen up," Mahima addressed Bajwa and Lal Singh. "Absolute secrecy. Breaches will not be tolerated."
Bajwa cleared his throat. "Ma'am, there are leads from those drug peddlers I investigated"
"Yes," Mahima said, a spark of hope igniting in her eyes. " Did They admit anything??
Bajwa nodded and continued " to a big shipment coming in from across the border. Apparently, it'll be discussed at some high-profile party in Alphinstone's."
"Excellent," Mahima said, leaning forward. "Did they give any names?"
Bajwa shook his head. "No, ma'am. Just small-time peddlers. They wouldn't know the big fish. Although, there are rumors about their boss, 'Big Tiger,' attending the party."
"Bingo!" Mahima exclaimed. "Our goal is to get intel on the shipment - where it's landing and who this Big Tiger is." She turned to Lal Singh. "Anything suspicious from the call records of those two you picked up?"
Lal Singh shuffled some papers. "Yes, ma'am. They're in contact with cartels in Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur."
"Any names?" Mahima pressed.
Lal Singh grimaced. "No, ma'am. But there's definitely some connection to the higher-ups. Maybe even..." He trailed off, his eyes darting towards Mahima.
Mahima's breath hitched. "I.G.?" she whispered, dread creeping into her voice.
She locked eyes with Jagjeet across the room. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
"Jagjeet," Mahima began, her voice strained, "what about the security cameras? Can we infiltrate their security?"
Jagjeet sighed heavily. "There's a problem. We can't involve the department's cyber team."
"Why not?" Mahima demanded.
"The head of cyber is DIG's personal favorite," Jagjeet explained.
