Author's POV :
The evening sun cast long shadows across the city as the team gathered to celebrate their successful mission. Mahima, Bajwa, and Lal Singh were all in high spirits, their faces beaming with pride. Yet, amidst their joy, Jagjeet couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss with Mahima. She seemed lost in thought, her eyes occasionally darting away from the conversation.
Lal Singh, ever the optimist, suggested a trip to an amusement park. The idea of a fun-filled day with their families filled everyone with excitement. Jagjeet invited Harman to join them, eager to share this moment of triumph with her.
As Mahima was new to the city, Jagjeet couldn't help but wonder if she was missing her parents. But before he could ask, the conversation shifted, and everyone retreated to their respective residences.
Approaching her home, Mahima's heart pounded in her chest. The unlocked gates were unusual, as Deepak, her house help, was on leave. Her cop instincts kicked in, and she moved cautiously towards the door, her hand hovering over her gun.
Creeping inside, Mahima's senses were on high alert. The dimly lit living room reflected a shadowy figure on the polished wooden floor. Aiming her gun, her finger poised on the trigger, she prepared to confront the intruder. To her surprise, it turned out to be her best friend, Anisha.
"Really, Mahima? That's your idea of hospitality? I flew back from the UK just to see my best friend pointing a gun at me," Anisha said, laughing.
Relief washed over Mahima as she lowered her gun and hugged her friend tightly.
"That's what you get for keeping your best friend waiting for four years," Mahima replied, smiling.
"Okay, go take a shower. I'll make you coffee," Anisha said.
"Blueberry?" Anisha asked."Blueberry," Mahima replied.
An hour later, they were sitting in Mahima's bedroom, catching up."Hey, me and my team are going to an amusement park," Mahima said. "Do you want to come?"
"If you insist," Anisha replied, laughing.
"Please, your highness, grant me the honor of taking you out," Mahima pleaded, bowing dramatically.
"Granted," Anisha said, giggling.
The next morning, Harman was bouncing around the house, his excitement palpable.
"Yay! Amusement park! Amusement park! Amusement park!" he chanted, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"Are you happy, champ?" Jagjeet asked, smiling.
"Very happy," Harman replied.
Just as they were about to leave, Jagjeet's phone rang. It was Lal Singh."Sir, sorry to bother you, but there's an issue," Lal Singh said.
"What happened, Lal Singh?" Jagjeet asked.
"Sir, my car needs some repairing, I guess," Lal Singh replied."And?" Jagjeet asked.
"Can me and my family come with you and Harman?" Lal Singh asked."Of course!" Jagjeet replied.
Lal Singh, his two sons, his wife, Harman, and Jagjeet arrived at the amusement park. Jagjeet spotted Mahima waiting for them, her floral printed yellow midi dress accentuating her figure. His gaze shifted to another woman, dressed in bell-bottom jeans and a white tank top. She was looking at him with... contempt.
