Author's pov:

"What's what?"  Mahima asked

"Is there something you need to tell me?"

"Umm The Mission..she uttered in very low whisper"

Jagjeet puts both of his hands on Mahima's shoulders

Mahima's voice trembled, her clouded eyes locking onto Jagjeet's. "Jagjeet, I overheard something disturbing at Elphinston."

Jagjeet's intense gaze pinned hers, his chiseled features stern. "What?"

Mahima hesitated, fingers intertwining. "Your ex-father-in-law...I think he's involved in Gurdaspur's massive drug consignment."

Jagjeet's face froze, piercing blue eyes searching for confirmation. His broad shoulders tensed.

"The shipment's enormous, Jagjeet," Mahima pressed, voice laced with urgency. "21,000 kilograms. If it hits the streets..."

Jagjeet's jaw clenched, mind racing. His eyes narrowed.

"How did you discover this?" Jagjeet whispered, tone deliberate.

Mahima's hands clenched. "Ruby rings identify cartel members; size denotes rank." "....And..."Her voice dropped.

"My father-in-law...wears one."
Jagjeet completed her words with a darkened expression, turmoil swirling beneath. His eyes burned with unresolved loyalty and suspicion.

Mahima's voice started to crack a bit and her hands shaking, jagjeet quickly moved towards her, his both hands enveloping her shoulders trying to calm her down, "Mahi , look at me, I am here....relax..." His voice helped her relax a bit

"Papa are you trying to bite Mama again?" Harman said descending the stairs while  rubbing his eyes.

Tension dissolved. Mahima's cheeks flushed. Jagjeet smiled warmly looking for answers "umm...."

"No, kiddo, I am cooking for you and Papa is helping me to cook," Mahima explained.

Harman ran towards her and wrapped Mahima's legs tightly. "Best Mama worldwide!"

""you know mama, sahiba's mama always cooks for her , she boasts about it all the time....but I couldn't do the same c..cause i didn't...have.."," Harman shared. "Why didn't you, Mama? Where were you?"

Mahima knelt, embracing Harman. Tears welled.

"I'm sorry, beta, for not being here earlier" she whispered. "I'm here now. I'll cook for you daily... I promise."
Jagjeet watched, eyes shining.

I am feeling left out....Jagjeet whined , Mahima and harman looked at him and laughed through the tears, she stood up and held harman in her left hand while extended her blistered arm towards jagjeet inviting him into the hug. Jagjeet whispered in her ear "I am the luckiest man in the universe" a smile tucked Mahima's lips "don't forget about our first date" she nodded.

They stood there for what felt like hours till Harman's stomach grawled for food..."mama I think my tummy doesn't love you as much"

As twilight descended upon the tranquil gardens, Mahima stood beneath the majestic magnolia tree, its delicate petals unfolding like silken parasols. The fading sunlight danced across her face, illuminating the gentle curves of her cheeks and the soft sparkle in her eyes. She checked her watch for what felt like the hundredth time, her heart fluttering with anticipation, like a hummingbird sipping nectar from the nearby flowers.

8 pm.

Jagjeet was running late, but the promise of his arrival hung in the air like the sweet scent of blooming jasmine.
