The halls were eerily silent when the two of you finally left ten minutes later, your piece of luggage in tow while you put the hood from your zip up on your head, wearing dark clothes on purpose. She had already been wearing something darker, but she grabbed one of your slip-on jumpers and did the same with the hood anyway.
You felt like the thudding of your heart against your ribcage was the only sound echoing off the walls and this was all wrong.
You've lived here long enough to know that these halls are never quiet during any time of the night, and it was still early, not even eleven, so you knew something was up.
The two of you kept your heads down, just wanting to get off campus and find some help or find a way out of whatever the fuck was going on – a simulation? You weren't really convinced, but you knew something was definitely off. You remembered being outside that building, feeling drawn to it for whatever reason, and then Vostokoff stopped you and then...you remember the feeling before you woke up hours later. The energy that flew through your veins and lazily threatened every nerve in your body like it could shut you down completely within a blink of an eye, but for whatever reason, skimmed by the opportunity.
You followed Wanda to the exit and then crashed into her from behind because she had stopped short the moment she stepped foot outside the dorm building.
You went to ask her what was wrong, but she kept you behind her with an arm going back to herd you out of sight of whatever she was facing, and you had to lean to the side to peek around her shoulder.
What you saw gave you the weirdest whiplash on this planet or the next.
The two of you had somehow walked out of the dorms and into a huge, white room that held machines off to the side, but in the middle of the nearly empty space was 'dean' Fury with his hands behind his back. The picture you've seen of the dean in a random uni hallway didn't have the eye patch he donned now, but that didn't matter as your eyes went from him to Professor Coulson that stood at his side, eyeing you with a small, almost proud smile.
But that wasn't the craziest part.
Surprisingly.
What really had the air locked in your lungs was the two rows of people, one on each side of them, standing like obedient soldiers.
They were all your friends or friends of your friends.
Wanda slowly backed up and you followed her cue, but neither of you hit the dorm building's entrance because it had vanished.
"Doctor," Fury gestured for someone else to speak first and you were surprised you hadn't pissed yourself yet as a tall man stepped out from seemingly nowhere, looking to Wanda with a warm smile and then studying you curiously, "I thought you said we were only missing one more."
"We were." He spoke slowly, distracted by you, and you swallowed thickly, wishing you had your taser handy.
Your frantic eyes went from him to the people you knew, but they were unmoving, unaffected by all of this, and you felt your panic rising in your chest again as Wanda tensed in front of you.
"Are you telling me one of these is an..." Fury trailed off with disgust before spitting the word, "Extra?"
"It appears so." The 'doctor' with the comic con look nodded and apparently, Wanda had had enough time to process this crazy.
"What the hell is this?" She snapped and put an arm up when you went to her side, making sure you didn't get closer to them than she was, "If one of you don't tell me what the fuck is going on right now, I'll-"
"You'll what?" Fury cut her off sharply and you widened your eyes when it echoed.
"It's a spell," The doctor explained, and your frightened eyes snapped to his, "We've been recruiting special adolescents and placing them in an environment to see how they...get along essentially."
