Naruto stood there, unable to move away, as if leaving wouldtake something irreplaceable from him. Naruto took five minutes to pull awayfrom the fountain and continue his search, but he kept looking back as if missing something important. After the fountain left his line of sight, thefeeling left him, and he could continue undisturbed.
Several houses later, Naruto found something that caused himto stop breathing for a second. Charred and burned, a vast mansion stood that still looked like a grand house where royalty would live. At the front of thecompound was the symbol of the Uzumaki swirl.
"This has to be the clan house. It's huge!" Narutosaid in awe as he entered the compound.
The garden still seemed well cared for, and this was theonly area other than the city square with the fountain that the forest had not overgrown. There were several large training areas, and the rest of the grounds werewell-kept, with many exotic flower beds that would make the Yamanaka flowershop look like a poorly stocked roadside stand run by children.
Naruto walked up to the entrance, which had been busted offits hinges by something. Once inside, he saw a large boulder, most likely froma Doton Jutsu, slammed against the far wall. In the centre of the floor was alarge Uzumaki crest, with twin spiral staircases leading to the upper levels.
Looking around, apart from the occasional skeleton of a bodythe forest animals had not taken, Naruto began to see the devastation causedhere. The attackers hadn't just killed the people; they had tried to erasetheir existence.
All the books he found in the library had been burned, andall the smaller Uzumaki crests were destroyed beyond recognition. Narutofigured the ones that had been left alone were protected by seals.
"There is no information about them left at all. Damnit. This can't be all there is..." Naruto said to himself, feelingslightly defeated.
Rayleigh and Rinji caught up to him and saw the desolationand his frustration.
Rayleigh placed a comforting hand on Naruto's shoulder."They may have tried to erase your clan, but they couldn't eraseeverything. The seals, the remnants of their work, and the legacy they leftbehind in you are still here."
Rinji nodded. "Your ancestors were masters of sealing. There might still be hidden knowledge protected by their seals. We need to findit."
Naruto looked up at them, hope flickering in his eyes."You're right. I can't give up now. There has to be something here, somepiece of their knowledge that survived."
Naruto returned downstairs and began to look around for onelast time. Despite its grand and spectacular nature, the mansion still seemedempty.
However, Naruto found a new room on the bottom floor that wasrather interesting. "What the hell? A genjutsu... but for what?"Naruto questioned himself. Then he saw it. On the walls of the significant yetempty room, a huge design guarded by a genjutsu made it look like a blankwall. Something at the top of the wall at the far end of the room caught hiseye.
A wooden pillar had some words cut into it, and Naruto beganto read them in Uzu's foreign language. "Uzumaku shio wa Watashi Tachi gashine hi made Watashi Tachi no soba ni matte imasu. (The whirling tides willstand by our sides until the day we die.)" Naruto said aloud.
When Naruto finished the sentence, a small passageway openedin the centre of the room, leading down a flight of stairs. From what he couldtell, it was dark and curved away into the unknown.
Naruto made his way along the dark corridor, using a smalltorch to see where he was going. The area seemed to become more comprehensiveup ahead, with a return of lighting that did not appear natural, as if from alamp.
