Tick tick tick....the clock was so loud in the quiet room, Virgil hated it. He hated a lot of things, he hated the clock sound, he hated the sound of his own breathing, he hated his heart and how it made him feel.

Let me explain, Virgil was in love. Yes, it was strange to be in love with basically yourself. But each side was very different from the last, they had their own face, own likes and dislikes, own personality, and own feelings. And for Virgil, he hated having feelings.

Being the side that stood for anxiety, this made having feelings even worse. Feelings made him, well, anxious. What ifs and different possibilities ran through his head, it made him sick.

He jumped at the feeling of a hand on his shoulder. He had been so lost in thought that he had forgotten where he was. He was sitting in the living room of the "house" in the mindscape. He looked up and met the face of the one person he didn't wanna see.

Roman.

He looked away quickly before mumbling a quiet what. Roman sat down next to him on the couch, "Are you alright, emo?"

Virgil hated how his heart lurched. Roman cared about him. It made him feel fuzzy inside, but Roman was just being nice.

Virgil looked up, seeing Roman waiting for his answer, Virgil didn't dare speak, the embarrassment of his voice cracking was too much, so he just nodded. Roman stared at him before nodding as and standing up.

Virgil watched Roman walk away before sighing. He stood up too, he shuffled his feet as he made his way to the stairs. He didn't know what to do. He felt lost.

He wasn't watching where he was going. At the top of the stairs, he bumped into a tall figure. His breath caught in his throat expecting it to be Roman, seeing as the universe hated him.

But it wasn't Roman, it was actually the side that looked identical to Roman. His twin brother, Remus. "Hiya, Virgil~" Remus purred, Virgil rolled his eyes and blew through his bangs looking at Remus.

"Not now, Remus, I'm not in the mood." Virgil snapped. Remus looked taken back from the tone used towards him. Concern washed over him, he didn't show it much but he did care for his fellow sides.

"What's wrong, Virge?" He asked softly, he's learned from watching Patton using a soft tone is how you handled a distressed Virgil.

Virgil shrugged his shoulders, "Nothing, leave me alone." Remus sighed and grabbed Virgil's wrist. He pulled him down the hall, past Virgil's room. The hallway got gradually dimmer as they reached the "dark" side of the mindscape. Virgil shivered some, he's gotten used to other side and had forgotten how cold it was.

Remus through open Janus's bedroom door. Virgil grimaced, he knew not to try and escape Remus, Remus was much stronger than him.

Janus looked up and sighed. Just a few years ago it would've been normal to see Remus standing in his doorway, holding Virgil hostage. Janus motioned them in and Remus pushed Virgil in the room and closed the door. Remus bounced over to Janus and looked at him. "He's being a bitch and won't tell me what's wrong,"

Janus looked at Virgil, his face soften. "Remus, leave us, please. I'll handle it." Remus protested but quickly stopped and slowly left the room. "Virgil, darling," Janus began sitting on his bed and patting the spot to him. Virgil sat down with him, refusing eye contact. "Tell me what's wrong."

"Nothing's wrong, Remus is just being dumb." Virgil said, fiddling with his hoodie sleeve.

"Really, Virgil? I raised you, I know when you're in distress. You can talk to me, I promise there will be no judgement." Janus laid his hand on Virgil's shoulder. It was true, Janus did raise him as a young side. Patton raised Logan and Roman, while Janus raised Virgil and Remus. They were much older than the other sides so they ultimately became each set's father figure.
