What's halloween?|| 008

The Byers household.

Will looked outside of the window, watching as leaves danced in the cold breeze. He had never seen the leaves this colour before, it was interesting for him though. He got up from his bed and opened the door, walking out. Joyce was getting started on dinner and Jonathan called Nancy. He walked into the living room and sat on the couch. He turned his head, flicking through the channels.

As he saw the channels and shows, he noticed something repeating. The mention of "Halloween" was in each show. He didn't know what it was but it intrigued him. But before Will could learn more about it, his mother turned off the tv. "Dinners ready." She said. Will was annoyed but walked to the kitchen where a table and three chairs stood. He sat down next to his brother who was already digging in, taking bites of the corn that was on the cob. Joyce sat down and also began eating. "What is Halloween?" Will asked, his voice quiet. "Uhmm." Joyce didn't want to speak. It was too dangerous for him to be going out like this. At least not now." She whispered the last sentence.

"It's just something people do.." Joyce said while taking a long sip from her water. "Where did you even see it from?" Jonathan asks. "I saw it on tv." Will said with a smile. "No more tv.." Joyce mumbled but Will heard. "Why?!" He exclaimed. "Halloween is not.. safe. Right now at least." She whispered the last sentence. "How is it not safe?!" He asked. "Uhmm.. it's really scary." Jonathan added. "But.." He sighed, knowing he won't be aloud to see the decorations. He didn't know what Halloween was fully but he knew there were decorations.

Awhile after dinner. Will said he was going to be early but brought his shoes into his room. He was gonna sneak out and see the decorations. He put the shoes and opened the window with his mind. Before he climbed out, he looked back. He jumped outside and began walking away from his house and onto the streets. Many houses were filled with decorations. Like ghosts, carved pumpkins, skeletons, and some creative houses too. This was a wonderland for Will. As he walked through the streets he saw a piece of paper stuck on something. He walked over to it and looked at it.

It had big writing and had orange paper.

Costumes? He thought. Suddenly, he had a thought. He saw costumes on the tv. Dressing up as a character, sounds easy.

October 31st was only in a couple days so Will decided to go to it. He walked back home and climbed through the window, closing it with his telekinesis. He took his shoes off and placed them next to each other beside his bed and got under the covers. He shut his eyes and eventually drifted off to sleep.

Joyce had found it suspicious that Will wanted to go to bed early. Usually he'd want to watch tv or draw but tonight was different. She thought of many possibilities, like if he was sick. She began worrying. She was startled when she felt Jonathan's hand on his shoulder. "You okay, mum?" He asked. "Y-yea. I'm fine. Do you need anything, sweetheart?" She asked. "Uhmm.. I was wondering if I could go to this party on Halloween. I won't be out late, plus me and Nancy are probably gonna leave immediately." He said. "Fine. But don't come home late or drunk. Be smart for me." She said and he nodded a reply. He walked to his room and went to his bed, collapsing in it and falling asleep.

Just as she began relaxing she heard a thud come from Wills room. She ran to his room and swung open the door to see Will fast asleep. Weird. She thought. She gently closed his door and went off to her bedroom. She lied in bed and pulled the covers onto herself before closing her eyes and drifting to a deep slumber.
